Today
is the International Day of Tolerance formed by UNESCO on this day in 1995
With
too many nations armed to the teeth with nukes, a clear blueprint for humanity
to survive
Intolerance
of opposing views brings hate and demonization
Brings
into question justification for the inhabitants of such a nation
On
the domestic front intolerance brings complete disgust
Cannot
believe opposing views and certainly the motives you cannot trust
There
was a time not too long ago that in a closet one’s sexuality had to reside
Exposed
then, social condemnation and banned to an unemployment ride
Too
many had to live two lives, one for the 9 to 5 and public world
The
other the privacy in the home where one true feelings could be unfurled
A
stigma sadly made much worse
By
the outbreak of the HIV deadly curse
Only
slowly the public came to realize and accept
Intimate
unprotected sexual contact needed to infect
While
in the Islamic radical world it is death to gays
Deep
seated and unforgiving intolerance to display
That’s
why it may be refreshing that an openly gay Pete Buttigieg is in the Iowa Blue
primary lead
Voters
are looking not to his sexuality but rather weighing his policies and deeds
This
poet will not attack the man only the policies that prosperity and security
will stifle and chill
Plans
for responsibility, less government, lower taxes, and secure borders are plates
we need to fill
Tolerance
from both sides is a needed breath of fresh air
Listen
to the ideas and debate how they compare
Whether
the proponent is gay or straight
We
need objective rationality to rule our fate
