Ridley's Believe It Or Not For February 14, 2016 Valentine's Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For February 14, 2016. Unfortunately, still 341 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term but fortunately only 20 days until the start of the Iditarod. The race for the presidency yesterday went from the hypothetical to the reality with the death of Justice Scalia and the fact that the next president will have the ability to nominate his successor and probably two or more justices in the following four years. I trust your Sunday is off to a great start and even if you were not romantic enough to have ordered a customized poem from the Alaskanpoet, your Valentine’s Day will be a great one.    As always, I hope  you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Barbara Streisand, factoids of interest, a relevant quote by Gloria Steinem, looking forward to enjoying some crème filled chocolates with your Valentine, blessed with a positive attitude and  secure in  the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Valentines’ Day birthdays, weddings, or  anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem  at a great price  tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.

On this day in:
a. 1849 James Polk became the first president to have his picture taken.
b. 1899 in a let the chad wars begin, voting machines are approved by Congress for use in federal elections.
c. 1920 the League of Women Voters was founded in Chicago.
d. 1989 in an act so typical of the inhuman barbaric fanatic theocrats in Iran, Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa encouraging Muslims to kill Salman Rushdie, the author of The Satanic Verses.
e. 2005 YouTube was founded by three former PayPal employees and sold a year later to Google for $1.65 billion.
Reflections on violence against women:“ “We might have known sooner that the most reliable predictor of whether a country is violent within itself-or will use military violence against another country-is not poverty, natural resources, religion, or even degree of democracy; it's violence against females. It normalizes all other violence.” Gloria Steinem, My Life on the Road  She is a noted feminist back in the news along with Albright for claiming young women are attracted to Sanders so they can attract cool men. Today on this V-Day and every day all men must observe zero tolerance for violence against women.
