It
is a sad day when in picking the word of the year
The
Oxford Dictionary picks a word that
symbolizes our divisiveness and fears
The
word is “toxic” which defines our nation’s political scene to a tee
The
chasm between left and right widens and from rational discourse both sides flee
One
no longer argues against another one’s position with facts
But
rather demonizes the opponent to justify the path to attack
It’s
no longer here are the facts that prove you wrong
Rather
you are a racist, xenophobic, and misogynist are the lyrics of the song
In
the physical world hang around materials that emit fumes that are toxic
You
die or become injured and in the discourse world reason sucked out and debate
becomes hypoxic
People
stop listening and resort to ridding the world of perceived evil persons
The
chances of solving disputes and issues without deadly violence really worsens
Sadly
the Oxford Dictionary in picking
toxic was right
We
have let reason be captured by the dark sinister forces of the night
