March 7, 2021 Ridley's Beleive It Or Not National Finisher's Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not March 7, 2021

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues the new year with cases now over 117 million at 117,423,659 with 352,875 new cases (a .30% increase) 21,945,716  which are active, 95,477,943 closed with 92,873,343 recoveries (97.27% and 97.27% yesterday) and 2,604,600 deaths (2.73% and 2.73% yesterday) to continue the trend of increased cases with increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentages with some plateaus.

CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 29 million at 29,689,485  with 35,202 new cases (a .12% increase) with 8,827,142 active cases of which 13,324 (.15% of active cases and back to daily decreases and a now a decrease now of 15,947 from a peak of 29,271 on December 31) are in serious or critical condition, 20,862,343 closures, 537,784 of which have been deaths (2.58% and 2.589% yesterday) and 20,324,559 of which have been recoveries (97.42% and 97.42% yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and after many months is now .15% lower than the world rate and now .02% lower than Canada which has the socialized type medicine Biden may well want to implement here but at least has approved 4 vaccines as opposed to our 3  and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 1618 ranks behind Belgium (1913), UK (1827) which had passed us despite leading world in testing), Italy (1652), Hungary (1446) and Portugal (1625) and only slightly worse than Bulgaria (1535), Spain (1521),  Mexico (1466), Peru (1436), France (1355), Sweden (1282) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise in  deaths, Brazil (1234),  Poland (1197), Argentina (1163) Switzerland (1155), Chile (1096), and Bolivia (1002) and we have now conducted  369,036,634 tests (now at 1,110,485/M) compared to number 2 now France at  841,034/M) as we are conducting  more tests in number and on a per capital basis for all nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark,  Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) other than the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 1,382,664/M.

US Vaccinations: In the U.S. as of 3/7/2021 90.4 million doses have been given, 2.16 million per day in the last week (sounds impressive but if the rate does not increase it will take us now reduced to some 6 months to have 75% of the population vaccinated which many believe is necessary to develop herd immunity. In California 10,634,752 total doses have been given (76.6% of doses received to again slide  below U.S. average of 77.6%), but probably because of the pressure of more than 1.5 million recall signatures have been turned in, California has moved  up from to tied for 34th  to 33rd   out of 50 in terms of the percentage of doses administered as a percentage of doses delivered to the states. A long way to go to get herd immunity and little improvement relative to other states and a great reason to recall this inept governor. As of 37/2021 in California we have reduced hospitalizations to 4,291/M with COVID-19 patients hospitalized occupying 7.5% of all hospital beds.

Non CV Case News: The Queen made a speech to the Commonwealth that ignored Harry and Meghan Markel and stressed the importance of unity in her typical class act ahead of the royal outcasts interview with Oprah Winfrey for which CBS is reported to have paid at least $7 million (not sure how much of that goes into Harry’s and Meghan’s s pockets); in a Sturgis déjà vu without the Harleys, 300-400,000 cycles are expected to descend on Fort Lauderdale this week for Spring Vacation; on the CV battlefront a new drug  Molnupiravir, by Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, has been reported to be showing significant progress in stopping the spread of infection and cell damage by those infected with COVID-19; the Recall Gavin backers have announced 1.95 recall signatures as they move to their St. Patrick’ Day Goal of at least 2 million signatures to insure that the number of invalidated signatures do not defeat their attempt to recall this inept governor; McKenzie Scott, billionaire ex-wife of Jeff Bezos has just remarried Dan Jewett, a private school science teacher in Seattle;  Little Fredo Chris who with no Trump to attack must be wondering when he will be getting a pink slip is being mocked for for his claim that he is “black on the inside;” in a recent book Obama is seen supporting Warren, claiming Buttigieg couldn’t win because he was gay and too short and had tepid if best support for Biden; Lebron James has indicated that his decision to take or not take the COVID-19 vaccine is a private one between him and his family;; backers of a recall effort for L.A. DA Gascon have formally started the process and have 160 days to obtain 580,000 signatures of registered voters to place a recall on the ballot https://recallgeorgegascon.com/; while Green New Deal backers taunt their large carbon foot prints, leave it to a political cartoonist to reveal the hypocrisy of carbon warrior like John Kerry: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cartoons-slideshow: although 80% of the recall Newsom signatures have been verified and 1.95 million signatures have been collected, signature drive continues to insure a recall in the event that any of the 1.5 million signatures already received are not valid to insure Newsom is put on a recall ballot where he needs to be given his unmitigated ineptness: https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/

Chicago Gun Violence: HeyJackass.com is back to show that through March 6, 2021,  gun violence involving mostly persons of color shooting persons of color in Chicago is alive and well with 489 persons shot of whom 94 have died.

Reflections on March 7, 1965 on Bloody Sunday at Selma, Alabama:  “ Lewis: Mr. Williams said, “Mr. Major, I would like to have a word, can we have a word?” And he said, “No, I will give you two minutes to leave.” And again Mr. Williams said, “Can I have a word?” He said, “There will be no word.” And about a minute or more Major Cloud ordered the Troopers to advance, and at that time the State Troopers took their position, I guess, and they moved forward with their clubs up over their—near their shoulder, the top part of the body; they came rushing in, knocking us down and pushing us.

Hall: And were you hit at that time?

Lewis: At that time I was hit and knocked down.

Hall: Where were you hit? Lewis: I was hit on my head right here.

Hall: What were you hit with?

Lewis: I was hit with a billy club, and I saw the State Trooper that hit me.

Hall: How many times were you hit with?

Lewis: I was hit twice, once when I was lying down and was attempting to get up.
Hall: Do we understand you to say were hit . . . and then attempted to get up and

Were hit—and was hit again? Lewis: Right”—From John Lewis’s testimony at District Court Hearing to enjoin Alabama officials from attacking the next march on Montgomery through Selma which was granted.

Non CV Case News: The mislabeled Blue COVID-19 Relief Act took a giant step forward to being passed after Blue Senator Manchin and Blue leaders reached a compromise on the Unemployment extension features of the bill; the New York AG has instructed Cuomo to preserve all documents relating to his office’s sending COVID-19 positive patients into nursing homes and the reporting of the deaths occurring there; a slim reed of sanity on the minimum wage was evidenced among Blues as 8 Blues voted against a $15 an hour federal minimum wage; backers of a recall effort for L.A.           5. Triple Threat Trumped by Smokes and Booze—celebrating the birth on this day in 1927 of Jack Cassidy a noted triple singer and actor who appear on theater, movies and TV but who struggled with alcohol and bipolar disorder who after a night of drinking, came home, lit up a cigarette and passed out on a couch which then caught fire and killed him on December 12, 1976 at the age of 49.

          On this day in:

          a. 1770 in Boston, 5 Americans including Crispus Attucks, a man believed to be African-American, were shot and killed by British troops; the soldiers were put on trial and defended by John Adams who procured acquittals for 6 of the accused.

Our enemies are numerous and powerful; but we have many friends, determining to be free, and heaven and earth will aid the resolution. On you depend the fortunes of America. You are to decide the important question, on which rest the happiness and liberty of millions yet unborn. Ridley’s Believe It Or Not March 4, 2021

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues the new year with  cases now nearing 116 million at 115,963,547 with 217,947 new cases (a .19% increase) 21,697,614 of which are active, 94,265,933 closed with 91,691,059 recoveries (97.27% and 97.27% yesterday) and 2,574,874 deaths (2.73% and 2.73% yesterday) to continue the trend of increased cases with increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentages with some plateaus.

CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 29 million at 29,454,706 with 64,155 new cases (a .22% increase) with 8,910,778 active cases of which 14,281 (.16% of active cases and back to daily decreases and a now a decrease now of 14,990 from a peak of 29,271 on December 31) are in serious or critical condition, 20,608,083 closures, 533,386 of which have been deaths (2.59% and 2.59% yesterday) and 20,074,697 of which have been recoveries (97.41% and 97.41% yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and after many months is now .14% lower than the world rate and now .02% lower than Canada which has the socialized type medicine Biden may well want to implement here  and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 1605 ranks behind Belgium (1907), UK (1821) which had passed us despite leading world in testing), Italy (1639), and Portugal (1617) and only slightly worse than  Hungary (1605), Bulgaria (1520), Spain (1507),  Mexico (1448), Peru (1421), France (1344), Sweden (1280) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise in  deaths, Brazil (1223),  Poland (1178), Argentina (1158) Switzerland (1152), Chile (1084), and Bolivia (996) and we have now conducted  364,820,765 tests (now at 1,097,634/M) compared to Russia at 767,931/M) as we are conducting  more tests in number and on a per capital basis for all nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark,  Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) other than the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 1,367,290/M.

US Vaccinations: In the U.S. as of 3/4/2021 82.6 million doses have been given, 2.04 million per day in the last week (sounds impressive but if the rate does not increase it will take us now reduced to some 6 months to have 75% of the population vaccinated which many believe is necessary to develop herd immunity. In California 9,860,209 total doses have been given (74.5% of doses received to again slide below U.S. average of 75.1%), but probably because of the pressure of more than 1.5 million recall signatures have been turned in, California has slipped back from 28th to 33rd  out of 50 in terms of the percentage of doses administered as a percentage of doses delivered to the states. A long way to go to get herd immunity and little improvement relative to other states and a great reason to recall this inept governor. As of 3/4/2021 in California we have reduced hospitalizations to 5,110 with COVID-19 patients hospitalized occupying 8.5% of all hospital beds.

Non CV Case News: Words matter and maybe Biden’s failing mental acuities have destroyed his ability to decipher what he says but his use of “Neanderthal” to describe Red thinking really obliterates his false call for unity and brings back memories of Hillary’s use of “deplorables” to describe Trump voters; Blue Representative from Mississippi Bennie Thompson must be in Pelosi’s dog house as he listened to his constituents and voted against H.R. 1 and compounded that fact by being an African-American  (maybe the stay was short as he also filed a civil suit against President Trump for violating the 1871 Klu Klux Klan Act by “inciting” a riot to interfere with that activities of the House on January 6, 2021); unlike the Nazis who censored by burning books, Jeff Bezos is much more effective—he has them delisted and blocked from Amazon if the content does not agree with his progressive views; while the Seuss Foundation caved with respect to 6 of his books that the Cancel Culture Warriors claimed were racist ignoring one of Seuss’ stepdaughters claimed he had not a racist bone in his body, the New York Public Library is keeping the books in circulation defying attempts of censorship; on the day when a president used to sworn in, the head of the Capitol Police are requesting that the Swamp remain an armed camp with National Guard soldiers for at least 2 more months because of fears of far right riots (really seems like a leftist boogeyman stretch); Joy Reid  continues to win the prize for the misnaming of the Century award as there is not an ounce of Joy in her body only bias and hate as she spews out tweets claiming conservatives would give back their tax cuts in exchange for being able to use the N* Word; on the PC front, a black school resource Tampa Bay Police Officer using the N*Word to describe students under his protection caught of body cam has been fired and the Police Union now wants him back on the force; backers of a recall effort for L.A. DA Gascon have formally started the process and have 160 days to obtain 580,000 signatures of registered voters to place a recall on the ballot https://recallgeorgegascon.com/; while the left applauded the death of Rush Limbaugh and heaped abuse on his memory. leave it to a political cartoonist to reveal Limbaugh’s entry into the heavens: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cartoons-slideshow: although 80% of the recall Newsom signatures have been verified and 1.9 million signatures have been collected, signature drive continues to insure a recall in the event that any of the 1.5 million signatures already received are not valid to insure Newsom is put on a recall ballot where he needs to be given his unmitigated ineptness: https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/

Chicago Gun Violence: HeyJackass.com is back to show that through March 3, 2021,  gun violence involving mostly persons of color shooting persons of color in Chicago is alive and well with 455 persons shot of whom 91 have died.

As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history, a musical link to “Moonlight Cocktail” by Glenn Miller  and His Orchestra with Ray Eberle and the Modernaires as vocals,  the fact that you do not tolerate a quisby in your company and a quote by Arthur Ashe on the blood transfusion of his HIV Virus, secure in the knowledge that if you want to send a gift for any memorable events like Mother’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient.           1. National Grammar Day—created by Martha Brockenbrough in 2008 to promote which has become somewhat of a dying art with the advent of Spell check and grammar checking programs but still the hallmark of an educated person.

           2. Nationalist Hospitalist Day—created by the Society of Hospital Medicine on this day in 2019 to honor and commemorate the quality of medical care provided by hospitals especially those that struggled with the volume of COVID-19 patients that swamped ICUs.

           3. 1942 Number One Song—the number 1 song in 1942 on this day with a run of 11 weeks not continuous in that position was “Moonlight Cocktail” by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra with vocals by Ray Eberle and the Modernaires. Here is a recording of “Glenn Miller and His Orchestra with vocals by Ray Eberle and the Modernaires: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4x3eSBmovc

          4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “quisle” which means to betray which is what far too many politicians are guilty of when it comes to keeping promises made to voters.

          5. A Why To Have One’s Own Stuntperson--celebrating the birth on this day in 1889 of noted actress Pearl White better known as the “Queen of the Silents” who made many Perils of Pauline movies but often did her own stunts and injured her back which caused her great pain and led to alcohol use to deaden it and then to cirrhosis which killed her on August 4, 1938 at the age of 48.

          On this day in:

           e. 2020 Nik Wallenda became the first person to walk on a tight rope over the Masaya Volcano in Nicaragua which fortunately for him did not erupt during his walk.

Reflections on loss of privacy due to disclosure of disease: “Just as I'm sure everyone in this room has some personal matter he or she would like to keep private, so did we. There was certainly no compelling medical or physical necessity to go public with my medical condition. What I came to feel about a year ago was that there was a silent and generous conspiracy to assist me in maintaining my privacy. This has meant a great deal to me and Jeanne and Camera." Arthur Ashe disclosing to reporters he had contracted the HIV Virus through a blood transfusion.

March 3, 2021 Ridley's Believe It Or Not World Hearing Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not March 3, 2021

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues the new year with  cases now past 115 million at 115,745,600 with 548,325 new cases (a .48% increase) 21,715,182 of which are active, 94,030,418 closed with 91,459,962 recoveries (97.27% and 97.27% yesterday) and 2,570,456 deaths (2.73% and 2.73% yesterday) to continue the trend of increased cases with increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentages with some plateaus.

CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 29 million at 29,454,706 with 207,129 new cases (a .71% increase) with 8,912,805 active cases of which 14,357 (.16% of active cases and back to daily decreases and a now a decrease now of 14,914 from a peak of 29,271 on December 31) are in serious or critical condition, 20,541,901 closures, 531,537 of which have been deaths (2.59% and 2.59% yesterday) and 20,010,364 of which have been recoveries (97.41% and 97.41% yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and after many months is now .14% lower than the world rate and now .02% lower than Canada which has the socialized type medicine Biden may well want to implement here  and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 1600 ranks behind Belgium (1905), UK (1817) which had passed us despite leading world in testing), Italy (1633), and Portugal (1614) and only slightly worse than  Hungary (1589), Bulgaria (1506), Spain (1502),  Mexico (1442), Peru (1409), France (1339), Sweden (1278) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise in  deaths, Brazil (1215),  Poland (1173), Switzerland (1150), Argentina (1153), Chile (1077), and Bolivia (994) and we have now conducted  363,407,751 tests (now at 1,093,599/M) compared to Russia at 765,877/M) as we are conducting  more tests in number and on a per capital basis for all nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark,  Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) other than the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 1,354,173/M.

US Vaccinations: In the U.S. as of 3/3/2021 80.5 million doses have been given, 2.01 million per day in the last week (sounds impressive but if the rate does not increase it will take us now reduced to some 6 months to have 75% of the population vaccinated which many believe is necessary to develop herd immunity. In California 9,731,169 total doses have been given (76.2% of doses received finally above U.S. average of 75.3?), but probably because of the pressure of more than 1.5 million recall signatures have been turned in, California has improved from tied at 29th to 28th out of 50 in terms of the percentage of doses administered as a percentage of doses delivered to the states. A long way to go to get herd immunity and little improvement relative to other states and a great reason to recall this inept governor. As of 3/3/2021 in California we have reduced hospitalizations to 5,110 with COVID-19 patients hospitalized occupying 8.9% of all hospital beds.

Non CV Case News: In an attempt to pressure Congress or maybe a desire to delay exposure to the American public of his fading mental faculties, Biden has announced he will not deliver his Constitutionally required report on the state of the union until after Congress votes on his COVID-19 relief package, the stimulus checks have gone out, the vaccine money has gone out and the money to the schools has gone out (so much for transparency and turning SOTUS into a Roman Coliseum event with free bread and Reds being fed like Christians to the lions); in another grim reminder that Biden’s mental faculties are fading and maybe fading faster than thought possible, after speaking to House Blues virtually on the COVID-19 Relief Bill and then stating he was ready to take questions from them, the virtual feed was almost immediately cut and the event ended (we are in a major heap of trouble when a mentally failing president makes his handlers so insecure they are unwilling to have questions from his own party seen by the American public); in another example that the road through space is not a path free from dangers, in the 3rd test of SpaceX’s SN10 Starship after going 6 miles up into space and landing upright in one piece a fire broke out and the rocket exploded (depressing news for California is that SpaceX is moving forward to build its manufacturing facility in Austin which raises the questions of when Tesla will do the same or to Arizona due to California’s high tax anti business regulatory environment); as Blues push forward with H.R.1 which Reds have alleged is a Blue power grab to distort elections and insure a political stranglehold by the Blues, the AG’s of 20 states have signed and sent a letter to Congress claiming the unconstitutionality of the bill (assuming there is not one Blue in the Senate with integrity to put nation ahead of party to vote against it if it is voted on as a budget reconciliation watch for another major issue to be soon on the doorstep of SCOTUS; Maria Shriver, the ex wife of another governor whose Reptilian Brain dwarfed that of Andrew Cuomo’s has questioned whether Cuomo’s “apology” will be enough; L.A. DA Gascon whose soft on criminal policies have sparked outrage in the community and among career prosecutors and members of law enforcement fortunately is facing a recall drive in which backers need 600,000 signatures https://recallgeorgegascon.com/; leave it to a political cartoonist to expose the obliviousness of the Reptilian Brain of Cuomo: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cartoons-slideshow: although 80% of the recall Newsom signatures have been verified and 1.9 million signatures have been collected, signature drive continues to insure a recall in the event that any of the 1.5 million signatures already received are not valid to insure Newsom is put on a recall ballot where he needs to be given his unmitigated ineptness: https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/

Chicago Gun Violence: HeyJackass.com is back to show that through March 2, 2021,  gun violence involving mostly persons of color shooting persons of color in Chicago is alive and well with 443 persons shot of whom 90 have died.

As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history, a musical link to “Frenesi” by Artie Shaw and His Orchestra,  the fact that you do not tolerate a quisby in your company and a quote by President H. W. Bush on the beating of Rodney King, secure in the knowledge that if you want to send a gift for any memorable events like Mother’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. Please contact me for the details on the pricing.

          1. World Hearing Day—created by the WHO in 2007 to promote awareness of loss of hearing and to promote solutions to address the problem as in many industrialized countries the problem is growing given the aging of the population.

           2. Desk Fast Day—created by Better Breakfast and celebrated since 2017 on differing days but this year on today to celebrate and honor those workers who the pressures on work mean a breakfast meal taken at the desk while working way between chews and sips.

           3. 1941 Number One Song—the number 1 song in 1941 on this day with a run of 11 weeks not continuous in that position was “Frenesi” by Artie Shaw and His Orchestra. Here is a recording of “Frenesi” by Artie Shaw and His Orchestra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMOHMYl5BCs Shaw was a noted clarinetist and leader of one of the popular bands of the 30’s and 40’s and who joined to the Navy to entertain the troops in the Pacific during World War II and after resurrecting his band after the war moved on to other pursuits, becoming a renown marksman and fly fisherman. He led an interesting life with 8 wives and died at age 94 on December 30, 2004.

          4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “quisby” which means an idler, exactly the sort of person not needed in the work force.

          5. A Name Goes Far But Sometimes Not Far Enough--celebrating the birth on this day in 1921 of noted actress Dianna Barrymore, daughter of actor John Barrymore, whose last name opened doors to a film acting career which due to her issues with drugs and alcohol soon ended as did a television show when she failed to show up; she spent a year in rehab, published an autobiography and died from alcohol and drug overdose on January 25, 1960 at age 38.

          On this day in:

a. 1859 the Great Slave Auction ended after two days and the sale of 459 men, women and children slave at a site near Savannah, Georgia organized by Pierce Mease Butler, a large plantation owner with slaves and sizable gambling debts which the auction was designed to pay for.

b. 1913 in evidence of the growing suffragist movement, thousands of women marched on Washington, D.C. in the Woman Suffrage Procession demanding the right to vote.

c. 1939 Gandhi began a hunger strike against autocratic British rule in India.

          d. 1991 an amateur video captured LAPD officers beating Rodney King after being stopped in a traffic chase, which video would put in motion events that led to the Los Angeles Riot in 1992.

          e. 2005 Steven Fossett landed in Kansas to become the first person to fly solo nonstop and airplane around the world without refueling in 67 hours, 1 minute, 10 seconds with an average speed of 342.2 M.P.H., without refueling or making intermediate landings.

Reflections on the beating of Rodney King from the eyes of a president:  “What I saw made me sick. It's sickening to see the beating that was rendered. There's no way in my view to explain it away. It was outrageous.” President George H.W. Bush.

March 2, 2021 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Read Across America Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not March 2, 2021

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues the new year with  cases now past 115 million at 115,197,275 with 318,258 new cases (a .28% increase) 21,785,367 of which are active, 93,411,909 closed with 90,857,369 recoveries (97.27% and 97.26% yesterday) and 2,554,540 deaths (2.73% and 2.74% yesterday) to continue the trend of increased cases with increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentages with some plateaus.

CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 29 million at 29,247,577 with 77,88928,957 new cases (a .27% increase) with 8,978,924 active cases of which 15,205 (.17% of active cases and first increase in weeks but still and a decrease now of 14,066 from a peak of 29,271 on December 31) are in serious or critical condition, 20,346,542 closures, 527,794 of which have been deaths (2.59% and 2.60% yesterday) and 19,818,748 of which have been recoveries (97.41% and 97.40% yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and after many months is now .14% lower than the world rate and now .03% lower than Canada which has the socialized type medicine Biden may well want to implement here  and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 1588 ranks behind Belgium (1902), UK (1810) which had passed us despite leading world in testing), Italy (1627), and Portugal (1610) and only slightly worse than  Hungary (1575), Bulgaria (1491), Spain (1488),  Mexico (1434), Peru (1403), France (1328), Sweden (1270) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise in  deaths, Brazil (1194),  Poland (1164), Switzerland (1150), Argentina (1145), Chile (1076), and Bolivia (990) and we have now conducted  360,910,270 tests (now at 1,086,118/M) compared to Russia at 763,823/M) as we are conducting  more tests in number and on a per capital basis for all nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark,  Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) other than the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 1,343,456/M.

US Vaccinations: In the U.S. as of 3/2/2021 78.6 million doses have been given, 1.94 million per day in the last week (sounds impressive but if the rate does not increase it will take us some 7 months to have 75% of the population vaccinated which many believe is necessary to develop herd immunity. In California 9,497,125 total doses have been given ( 75.8% of doses received), but typical of Newsom’s ineptness and because more than 1.5 million recall signatures have been turned in, due to the power of growing signatures on his recall petition, California has improved from 38th to tied at 29th  out of 50 in terms of the percentage of doses administered as a percentage of doses delivered to the states. A long way to go to get herd immunity and little improvement relative to other states and a great reason to recall this inept governor. As of 3/2/2021 in California we have reduced hospitalizations to 5,302 with COVID-19 patients hospitalized occupying 9.1% of all hospital beds.

Non CV Case News: While the head of the DHS intoned somewhat oblivious to the facts that there is no crisis on the border, a SUV crammed with 25 illegals in it being smuggled across the border was hit by a semi near the California Mexico border near Holtville, killing 13 and sending 8 to local hospitals; Biden true to form is claiming that the border is not in crisis only a challenge as more and more illegals including unaccompanied minors are heading toward our borders; Newsom facing recall lashes out at Abbot that he is reckless ignoring that Gavin’s performance has been totally feckless; Catholic Bishops have come out against the Johnson and Johnson vaccine now coming off the assembly lines in the thousands because of a cloned link to fetal tissue (with people still dying and not enough vaccine to go around, the Catholic Church on this issue seems off base; Cuomo’s sexual harassment scandal must be giving Joy no joy as this clueless host of  The View urges Democrats to just ignore it and hope they go away; Neera Tandem whose biased activist past doomed her confirmation has pulled her nomination but Biden foolishly is trying to find a place for this hack in a position that does not require Senate confirmation; Amazon in the height of folly as the nursing home scandal is front and center is still touting and promoting Cuomo’s book praising his handling of the pandemic (New Yorkers who lost parents and grandparents due to his death orders of sending CV positive patients to nursing homes must be shocked and outraged; in yet another example of how oblivious Cuomo is as he was having Doctor Elizabeth Dufort demonstrate how easy an nasal swab for a CV test was on him while she was in full PPE gear made the comment that “You make a gown look good”; thank God for the Senate Parliamentarian who ruled that Pelosi’s pet $100 million subway to nowhere could not be in budget reconciliation and she has pulled that wasteful piece of pork from the House COVID-19 relief bill; Psaki continues to hone her skills as the dodger in chief, dodging and refusing to answer questions on why Biden eliminated mention of Dr. Seuss on Read Across America Day; L.A. DA Gascon whose soft of criminal policies have sparked outrage in the community and among career prosecutors and members of law enforcement fortunately is facing a recall drive in which backers need 600,000 signatures https://recallgeorgegascon.com/; leave it to a political cartoonist to expose the idiocy of attacks on biological gender using Mr. Potato Head: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cartoons-slideshow: although 80% of the recall Newsom signatures have been verified, signature drive continues to insure a recall in the event that any of the 1.5 million signatures already received are not valid to insure Newsom is put on a recall ballot where he needs to be given his unmitigated ineptness: https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/

Chicago Gun Violence: HeyJackass.com is back to show that through February 27, 2021,  gun violence involving mostly persons of color shooting persons of color in Chicago is alive and well with 442 persons shot of whom 89 have died.

As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history, a musical link to “Careless” by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra with vocals by Roy Eberle,  the fact that you couple quirtitation with constructive action and a quote by Dr. Seuss to motivate, secure in the knowledge that if you want to send a gift for any memorable events like Mother’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. Please contact me for the details on the pricing.

          1. National Read Across America Day—created by the NEA in conjunction with Seuss Enterprises and first celebrated on this day in 1998, the birthday of Dr. Seuss whose works have led to more kids learning how to read and enjoying the process than probably any books on the planet and yet some of those works are now suddenly being labeled racist. https://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2021/03/cancel-culture-warriors-let-loose-have.html

           2. World Teen Mental Health Day—created by the Hollister Co., a division of Abercrombie & Fitch Co., on March 2, 2020 to raise awareness about mental health issues among teens and to provide education about removing stigmas surrounding preventative mental health which is more important than ever now during the stress of school lock downs during the pandemic.

           3. 1940 Number One Song—the number 1 song in 1940 on this day with a run of 5 weeks not continuous in that position was “Careless” by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra with Roy Eberle on vocals. Here is a recording of “Careless” by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra with Roy Eberle on vocals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9kKQH_zFuA Miller was a top selling recording artist from 1939-1942 leading one of the country’s best bands. He volunteered for the U.S. Army to entertain troops and was lost over the English Channel on December 15, 1944 while heading to Paris to make arrangements for a concert. Eberle was the younger brother of big band singer Bob Eberly who sang for Jimmy Dorsey and was asked by Glenn Miller if he had any siblings who sang and he referred Glenn to his younger brother who was quickly hired. Eberle was active in the business until his death from a heart attack at age 60 on August 25, 1979.

          4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “quirtitation” which means complaining or lamentation which when not accompanied by corrective action is wasted energy.

          5. Rehab Goes For Naught--celebrating the birth on this day in 1981 of noted American professional wrestler Lance McNaught better known to his fans as Lance Cade who had drug and alcohol issues but completed a 30 day rehabilitation program in February, 2010 but died on August 13, 2010 of mixed drug intoxication at the age of 29.

          On this day in:

a. 1882 Queen Victoria survived the 8th and last assassination attempt on her life by Roderick Maclean who was arrested on the spot when his shot missed and found to be insane to spend the rest of his life in Broadmoor Asylum.

b. 1949 Captain James Gallagher landed his B-50 Turbo prop Superfortress with a top speed of 395 m.p.h. in Fort Worth, Texas after completing the first around the world nonstop airplane flight in 94 hours and 1 minute.

c. 1969 in Toulouse, France the first test flight of the supersonic Concorde was completed.

          d. 1983 after enjoying great success in Japan, compact discs and players were released for sale into the U.S. and other nations.

          e. 1989 in a good day for the Ozone Layer, 12 European nations voted to eliminate the production of all chlorofluorocarbons by the end of the century.

Reflections on life from Doctor Seuss: “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the guy who'll decide where to go.” Dr. Seuss With words of encouragement like these how could someone be so foolish to condemn this author and poet as a racist.

Cancel Culture Warriors Let Loose Have Declared War on Doctor Seuss

For the PC and Cancel Culture Warriors  nothing is sacred and from traditions we must be cut loose
Sadly on this Read Across America Day their crusades include my beloved Dr. Seuss
To a former 5 year old entered in a talent contest in a Petersburg, Alaska Moose Club
Expanding Cancel Culture to target a beloved poet is an over the line wrong way rub
My poetic parents decided I would with no singing talent recite Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose
Each word committed to memory and all my young powers to emote set loose
Have to have a soft spot for a Moose in a territory where hunting for meat was prime time
Great illustrations of Thidwick and his antler squatters along with the full rhymes
Of a host who went out of his way to accommodate in his antlers a growing number of guests
Who with their insatiable demands were becoming more and more like pests
Abandoned by his fellow moose and banned from crossing to the lake’s far shore
His needs to be by his now unwanted guests ignored
Soon to starve without  being able to moose moss munch
Despairing on how to rid himself of this unwelcome heavy bunch
Saved by the hunters who were chasing him down
And by fact antlers by shedding to his head no longer bound
Do not be surprised if the Cancel Culture and PC Warriors soon have Thidwick in their sights
Xenophobic attack since in their minds illegal aliens are endowed with an open border right
Ignoring the fact like a poor gracious host our standard of living would be dragged down
Open borders to all regardless of our needs is a policy inane and unsound
Today defy the Cancel Culture Warriors and read to your children Dr. Seuss
More so  than ever time for these idiots to chill out and enter an unconditional truce

March 1, 2021 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Pig Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not March 1, 2021

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues the new year with  cases now past 114 million at 114,879,017 with 215,223 new cases (a .19% increase) 21,779,148 of which are active, 93,099,869 closed with 90,552,575 recoveries (97.26% and 97.26% yesterday) and 2,546,894 deaths (2.74% and 2.74% yesterday) to continue the trend of increased cases with increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentages with some plateaus.

CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 29 million at 29,247,577 with 28,957 new cases (a .10% increase) with 9,002,688 active cases of which 14,781 (.16% of active cases and a decrease now of 14,490 from a peak of 29,271 on December 31) are in serious or critical condition, 20,273,846 closures, 526,215 of which have been deaths (2.60% and 2.60% yesterday) and 19,747,631 of which have been recoveries (97.40% and 97.40% yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and after many months is now .14% lower than the world rate and now .03% lower than Canada which has the socialized type medicine Biden may well want to implement here  and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 1584 ranks behind Belgium (1899), UK (1805) which had passed us despite leading world in testing), Italy (1622), and Portugal (1607) and only slightly worse than  Hungary (1561), Spain (1488), Bulgaria (1474,  Mexico (1430), Peru (13971), France (1328), Sweden (1265) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise in  deaths, Brazil (1194),  Poland (1158), Switzerland (1147), Argentina (1143), Chile (1075), and Bolivia (989) and we have now conducted  359,641,568 tests (now at 1,082,317/M) compared to Russia at 762,454/M) as we are conducting  more tests in number and on a per capital basis for all nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark,  Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) other than the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 1,332,004/M.

US Vaccinations: In the U.S. as of 3/1/2021 74.9 million doses have been given, 1.82 million per day in the last week (sounds impressive but if the rate does not increase it will take us some 7 months to have 75% of the population vaccinated which many believe is necessary to develop herd immunity. In California 9,106,077 total doses have been given ( 78.6% of doses received), but typical of Newsom’s ineptness and because more than 1.5 million recall signatures have been turned in, due to the power of growing signatures on his recall petition, California improved from 38th to 37th  out of 50 in terms of the percentage of doses administered as a percentage of doses delivered to the states. A long way to go to get herd immunity and little improvement relative to other states and a great reason to recall this inept governor. As of 3/1/2021 in California we have reduced hospitalizations to 5,674 with COVID-19 patients hospitalized occupying 9.4% of all hospital beds.

Non CV Case News: It looks like the dam is breaking as a third woman has come out claiming Cuomo tried to kiss her at 2019 wedding and more and more Blues are jumping like rats from Cuomo’s sinking sexual harassment ship as De Blasio is attacking him and claiming he has witnessed his abusive behavior, Clinton is calling for an independent investigation and even Biden beholding to Cuomo for his support has joined in the call (Biden is probably jumping for joy that focus on Cuomo will cause people to forget Tara Reade’s accusations against him; Cuomo must now realize that his “just kidding around” defense is not going to fly and has hired a criminal defense lawyer to defend himself against the expanding sexual harassment claims (wonder in another shoe will drop compliments of Cuomo’s former wife over his behavior that caused the breakup of their marriage); the recently confirmed head of DHS is claiming there is not crisis at the border which seems to fly in the face of reality as illegals are streaming across the border despite warnings of CBP and ICE agents on the ground;  Niki Haley who would chew Kamala Harris up and spit her out looks like she is back in the Trump fold praising him after his CPAC speech praising his accomplishments (should be clear Reds will need a strong female on the 2024 ticket against an almost certainty 25th Amendment in place Harris; Witless Whitmer who believes in hiding the truth on CV deaths and refuses to release data to the public will be soon facing litigation from Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Charlie LeDuff to force disclosure (this pathetic and inept governor is about as transparent as a lead shield); it seems sadly that hazing of pledges in fraternities is alive and well as at the Delta Chi chapter at Virginia Commonwealth University was forced to drink a fifth of Jack Daniels, blindfolded which caused him to hit a tree with his head and then deposited on a couch where he was found dead in the morning (in a too little too late move the university suspended the chapter and its national chapter issued a cease and desist against hazing); Ex CIA Director made a fool of himself once again during a MSNBC interview claiming he was ashamed of his “whiteness” actually causing the leftist host Nicolle Wallace to openly laugh at him; L.A. DA Gascon whose soft of criminal policies have sparked outrage in the community and among career prosecutors and members of law enforcement fortunately is facing a recall drive in which backers need 600,000 signatures https://recallgeorgegascon.com/; leave it to a political cartoonist to expose the  Doctor Fauci flip flops on when masks will no longer be needed: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cartoons-slideshow: although 80% of the recall Newsom signatures have been verified, signature drive continues to insure a recall in the event that any of the 1.5 million signatures already received are not valid to insure Newsom is put on a recall ballot where he needs to be given his unmitigated ineptness: https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/
