We are not
immortal; from being invincible youth for all life will come to an end
But the Rite
of the Sitting Dead could now become the new funeral trend
No longer on
one’s back in a casket staring into space
What once
was a vibrant life a body now somewhat out of place
But rather
sitting or standing up in a pose
I am not
dead yet I am not yet ready to go
Shed no
tears for me just look at the smiling pose
Full life full of highs and like all of us a
few lows
We fail at
the two major Ds in one’s life
Divorce
marked by major parasites and bitter strife
And Death
marked by thousands of dollars to a life extend
As if
medicine the laws of God can somehow in the last days bend
Funerals a
major source of tears and grief
Even if in
passing, the passing brought from pain great relief
Here is an
idea on death that might take hold
An idea that
should be sold
Before the
cancer, the stroke, the arthritis, the diabetes, the crippling heart attack
A celebration
of life to enjoy the present and warmly reflect back
As for this
poet with too many Ds this would be his Sitting Rite
At a
computer a poem in creation, his works read aloud into the night
