Ridley's Believe It Or Not June 22 History Onion Rings Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—June 22, 2014:  Second day of summer but a veritable wasteland of holidays to enjoy. Hope you are in full summer enjoyment mode and enjoy these holidays, factoids, and a quote by Paul Simon on Kodachrome.
            1. Yellow Brick Road Day—mourning the loss of Judy Garland on this day in 1969 from a drug overdose, immortalized forever as Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ.
            2. Ask And I Will Tell Day—mourning the loss of Ann Landers on this day in 2002; she was an icon in skill of rendering advice to her readers submitting questions.
           3. Chocolate Éclair Day—celebrating another great desert.
           4. Onion Rings Day—another unknown holiday until today celebrating another way to harden the arteries    with fat.
On this day in:
            a. 1870 the U.S. Department of Justice was created; given the partisan nature of the current AG, perhaps a renaming to Department of Nonjustice might be considered.
            b. 1944 FDR signed the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944 (“The GI Bill”) which sent thousands upon thousands of World War II Vets to colleges following the end of World War II.
            c. 2009 in another example of how technological advances change our lives, the Eastman Kodak Company announced that it was after 74 years discontinuing the sale of its Kodachrome film—a victim of the digital cameras.
Still a sunny day:   They give us those nice bright colors. They give us the greens of summers. Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day.” Paul Simon from his song Kodachrome
