Ridley's
Believe It Or Not—June 7, 2014: Hope you
have time today to start your day with a hike and after communing with nature
and linking up with your ice cream desires enjoy the holidays, factoids, and
quote.
1. VCR-Day—commemorating Beta-Max and VHS
wars which ended with VHS the victor only to die in 2006 when all movies
released to the home market were in CD format for playing on DVDs
2. Daniel
Boone Day—celebrated in Kentucky commemorating Daniel Boone’s first
exploration of Kentucky in 1769.
3. National Trails Day—celebrated
since 1993 by the National Hiking Society to encourage exploration of the great
outdoors. So if someone states to you today “Go take a hike,” that person may
be giving you words of encouragement not expressing anger.
4. National Chocolate Ice Cream Day---celebrating
a great end to a day of hiking on the trails, especially if you were lucky
enough to find some wild blueberries on the trail to bring back with you.
On this
day in:
a. 1909 Mary Pickford made her screen debut at the age of 16.
b. 1965 the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Griswold v. Connecticut legalized
the sale of contraceptives to married adults.
c. 1981 the Israeli Air Force
bombed and destroyed Iraq’s nuclear reactor; hope the mullahs in Iran are
listening when the Israelis proclaim Iran must never be allowed to possess a
nuclear weapon.
Why do women bear all
the contraceptive risks? “A birth
control pill for men; that’s fair. It makes more sense to take the bullets out
of the gun than to wear a bulletproof vest.” Anon Makes sense to me.
