Ridley's
Believe It Or Not—June 2, 2014: Slow day for
holidays again as we enter the month of June with in Southern California in the
morning the June Gloom but hope you will
enjoy these holidays, along with a large bowl of rocky road ice cream, found
for today along with the factoids and quote.
1. Children’s Day (North Korea)—celebrated
around the world at different days in different countries—in North Korea where
children are starving because a regime pursues nuclear weapons and the domestic
economy is devastated seems to be the epitome of hypocrisy.
2. National Bubba Day—promoting a holiday of
which I am totally clueless why it is celebrated unless to honor a great young
up and coming golfer Bubba Watson.
3. Leave The Office
Early Day—since many people are
looking for a job or working at home, not sure who came up with this and why
you would celebrate it on a Monday when you just got back from a weekend from
which you probably started early.
4. National Rocky Road Day---celebrating one
of the all time great ice cream flavors, marshmallows, nuts, and vanilla or
chocolate.
On
this day in:
a. 1692 in a low point for the separation of church and state, Bridget Bishop
is the first person in Salem to go on trial for being a witch and was hanged on
June 10, 1692.
b. 1886 Frances Folsom married a sitting President Grover Cleveland the only
time a sitting President has been married (wonder if after the Monica Lewinsky
affair there could have be a divorce followed by a marriage—interesting musings).
c. 1896 Marconi applied for a patent for his invention that would help change
the information dissemination world—the radio.
Words from the grave of a person wrongfully charged, wrongfully
convicted, and executed: “I am no
more a witch than you are a wizard. If you take my life away, God will give you
blood to drink.” Sarah Good, one of the convicted Salem witches
