Like Mother Like Daughter

Our faults lie not in our stars but in ourselves a wise Roman on stage averred
Today as our genetic code is revealed some predictions on our lives to insure
Is it all in our genes to determine the odds of which disease may put us under or our ashes to scatter?
With our highly evolved introspective brains does our rational thoughts and will power matter
Or are we a mere chemical soup stirred and simmered by our genetic chefs
Human experiences like a composition of changing notes preceded by life’s clef
Each child carries one half of his or her parents’ genes
A melding to determine color, height, longevity whether plump or lean
In this mix and melding we now know in addiction how genes play an important role
Whether a child might become an addict and lose all chances at achieving his or her goal
Like father like son but also  like mother like daughter also runs true
Whitney Houston and daughter battling drugs and so their fans far true early bid them adieu
