Lack Of Snow Shortens Iditarod Ceremonial Start

On March 5 the Last Great Race on Earth is scheduled to begin
More likely than not one of the Seaveys may win
The 11 mile ceremonial start from Anchorage is experiencing a slight hitch
Mother Nature has served up a forecast of snow but with this major glitch
Above freezing temps means the snow will not stick to the ground for long
Dog sleds with runners on dry pavement do not belong
1000 dogs well trained and ready to be mushed and go
What does a race committee do when at the start there is a lack of snow
Load up rail cars from hundreds of miles away and shorten the distance to three mile
The ceremonial start goes on only in a shortened style
86 mushers, a thousand dogs mushing through the streets
Even the threat of climate change cannot the Last Great Race on Earth defeat
Mother Nature can be fickle especially when on weather we mortals must rely
Mushing through the Arctic night watching the Northern Lights dancing in the sky
