Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 29, 2017 The Reds who campaigned on repeal and replace Obamacare thanks
to three Benedicts, Collins, Murkowski and McCain have failed so we get to
watch the agony of a failed program that will implode in front of our very eyes
knowing that Congress and its staff have been exempted from complying with a
flawed law (so typical of the Swamp denizens to insulate themselves from the
pain they impose upon us mere mortals); shakeup at the White House with Priebus
leaving and Kelley assuming his role and Scaramucci declaring war on leakers;
another ICBM test (if we know where that obese lunatic is, time to take him and
his family out if China refuses to get involved (China work for regime change
or kiss the U.S. market goodbye); Iran complaining that warning shots fired by
U.S. Naval vessel in Persian Gulf were unprofessional (problem is that the
Iranian boat was not sunk); in another example of total ineptness billions of
student debt may be written off due to misplaced or lost paper work; through
July 28 2168 people have been shot in Chicago 370 of whom have died (sadly the
ATF agents Trump has sent has not put a damper on the carnage).
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to All-for-One,
factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote by Paris Hilton
on what a woman needs, hoping you can resist people who are inveigling you, secure in the knowledge
that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the
recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1.
International Tiger Day—celebrating
not the athletic teams of Princeton but a day to promote awareness of the
problems faced by tigers in the wild and the threats to their habitat.
2. Rain
Day—never underestimate the ability of a local community to create a
reason to suck in tourists to spend money in the community—Waynesburg, PA where
it always seems to rain on the 29th of July celebrates a rain day
festival on this day.
3. 1994 Number One Song—the number one song in
1994 on a run of 11 weeks in that position was “I Swear” by All-4-One. Here is a performance by the group
of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25rL-ooWICU
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “inveigle” which means to entice
which sadly Trump failed to do to get three Red Senators to vote in the proper
manner on the repeal of Obamacare.
5. To
Lose a Sister—celebrating the birth on this day in 1957 of Denise Brown, the
older sister of murdered Nicole Brown Simpson who has become a vocal advocate
against domestic violence and who must be truly saddened that the Juice will be
getting out of prison in October.
On this day
in:
a. 1858 Japan and the U.S.
signed the Harris Treaty opening up 5 Japanese ports to American ships.
b. 1932 U.S. troops
dispersed by force the last of the Bonus Army protestors from the Washington
Mall.
c. 1981 over 700 million
people watched the wedding of Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles (what an
idiot Prince Charles is to have dumped Diana for his current wife).
d. 1987 Margaret
Thatcher and Francois Mitterrand signed an agreement to build a tunnel under
the English Channel to connect France and England.
e. 1996 the child
protection provisions of the Communications Decency Act were struck down by a
federal court for being too broad.
Reflections on pets a woman needs: “Every woman should have four pets in her life. A mink in her
closet, a jaguar in her garage, a tiger in her bed, and a jackass who pays for
everything.” Paris Hilton
