Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 15, 2017 Scratch another jihadist the head of ISIS in Afghanistan
who won’t be frolicking with the virgins in “Paradise”; scary time in Honolulu
as the 31 story apartment building caught fire with at least three people
confirmed dead in a building built in 1971 with no sprinklers; at MSNBC the
rhetoric over the top never ends with “Joy” Reid a traitor to her name is a
host devoid of joy as she slams Trump and the Republicans for being a party of victimhood and resentment (all the while Blues cannot resist the race card or
the gender victim card as they move further and further to the left); not to be
outdone in the leftist rants ranking Elise Jordan compares Trump to a suicide
bomber (great way to get people to rationally discuss issues with you, you
biased idiot); JP Morgan’s CEO unloaded on the Swamp denizens whose Schumer led
obstructionism on tax cuts, infrastructure and education reform, in short the anti competitive S*** we have to endure relative to the rest of the world
(unfortunately Schumer, Pelosi and Warren have terminal wax buildup and are
incapable of listening); the feds must be closing in on Bernie and his wife as
he is ranting that the Republican health bill will be deadlier than 9/11 in
terms of causing deaths (news flash Bernie as you contemplate a sojourn in
federal prison no one is listening to or buying your socialistic rants); ABC
(Anything But Credibility) like a Pavlovian dog barked and came running when
that “icon of bipartisanship” the Southern Poverty Law Center branded a
religious first amendment defense group as a “hate group” (really?); through
July 13, 1971 people have been shot in Chicago 345 of whom have died (hopefully
the ATF agents Trump has sent in will help put a damper on this carnage.
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, music links to The
Human League and Linda Ronstadt, factoids of interest for this day in history,
a relevant quote by Malala Yousafzai on social media, hoping
you do not ingurgitate your fine wines, secure
in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events
like weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide
you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the
event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1.
Elderly Men Day—commemorating
the senior men on the island nation of Kirabati with its 33 atolls and home to
one of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific, the assault on Tarawa; since women
live longer than men the observance is followed tomorrow by Elderly Women Day.
2. Social
Media Giving Day—celebrating since 2013 the use of social media to raise funds
for charitable causes.
3. 1982 Number One Song—the number one song in
1982 on a run of 3 weeks in that position was “Don’t You Want Me” by The Human League. Here is a performance by the
band of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPudE8nDog0
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “ingurgitate” which means to swallow
or to guzzle which hopefully you did not do with respect to your wine on
Bastille Day.
5. Poneys
of Stone-celebrating the birth on this day in 1946 of Linda Ronstadt,
noted country and pop singer and one time girlfriend of Governor “Moonbeam”
Jerry Brown who because of Parkinson’s Disease has had to retire from
performing. Great distinctive voice; here is a 1976 live performance by her of
“You’re No Good.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bj_32QeAaU
On this day
in:
a. 1741 Alexi Chirokov
sighted land in Southeastern Alaska and sent ashore a band of sailors in a
longboat to become the first Europeans to visit Alaska.
b. 1799 the Rosetta
Stone was discovered in the village of Rosetta by French Captain Bouchard
during Napoleon’s Egyptian Campaign.
c. 1854 in a truly what
took you so long moment, the Spanish Inquisition was officially disbanded after
356 years of burning heretics at the stake and other inhumanities in the name
of God.
d. 1959 in a true shoot
yourself in the foot moment, the United Steel Workers went on a nationwide
strike leading to the importation of foreign steel in significant quantities
for the first time in our history.
e. 2016 in Turkey,
factions of the Turkish military commenced an unsuccessful coup attempt against
President Erdogan.
Reflections
on in the era of social media with all its warts and benefits and concerns,
Social Media Giving Day is a great concept. “What is interesting
is the power and the impact of social media... So we must try to use social
media in a good way.” Malala Yousafzai, noted Pakistani activist and the
youngest person ever to receive a Nobel Prize Agree with that observation one
hundred percent. Please
