Ridley’s Believe It Or
Not For July 2, 2017
Some signs from a Congress with major issues to resolve yet MIA of growing demands that August recess will go away (with
the internet and social media there is no reason that to their districts in
August the Congress must return); Trump is looking more and more like a
narcissistic petulant child with his tweets on Morning Joe hosts and a video of
his appearing on WWE with a CNN logo superimposed on the wrestler he is
throwing to the ground as his agenda may crash and burn (KellyAnne, Melania,
and Eric for the sake of this presidency a need for restraint you must convey);
Sen Paul mounted a scathing attack on the stalled replacement bill indicating that
is loaded up like a Christmas Tree with spending additions (why in holy heaven
did not the Reds have crafted a replacement bill during these last 8 years they
were railing against Obamacare—they come across as a bunch of political
Keystone Kops); the height of total inanity is being displayed by a few
deranged Blue members of the House who want to use the 25th
Amendment to remove Trump as president (agree with him or disagree with him but
these idiots are worthy of total scorn only);
through 1 day into July as 21 people were shot one of whom died bringing
through July 1, 1801 shooting victims with 316 fatalities (hopefully the ATF
agents Trump has sent in will help put a damper on this carnage.
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to the
Hues Corporaton, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote
by Tiny Tim, bemoaning the indigence of good bipartisan ideas to solve the
issues that face us, secure
in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events
like weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide
you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the
event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1.
UFO Day—promoting
the idea that we are not alone and encouraging humans to look up into the
heavens to scan for UFOs (the date of July 2 was chosen to commemorate the
supposed crash of a UFO at Roswell, New Mexico on this day in 1947).
2. Made
in the USA Day—created in 1989 to promote American manufacturing not assembling
of components that have been built elsewhere—if Trump would stop his infernal
tweeting and focus on job growth, this nation would be in a much better place.
3. 1974 Number One Song—the number one song in
1974 on a run of 1 week in that position was “Rock the Boat” by the Hues
Corporation. Here is a performance by the group performing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfBwsG8ubFw
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “indigence” which means poverty or
being in a state of being needy which describe the Swamp to a T when it comes
to ideas on how to end our gridlock.
5. A
Failed Shoe In—bemoaning the birth on this day in 1929 of Ismelda Marcos, the
wife of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who is best known for amassing
millions of dollars and stocking her closet with over a 1000 pairs of expensive
shoes while her people struggled to make ends meet.
On this day
in:
a. 1839 slaves off the
coast of Cuba revolt and seize control of the slave ship Armistad.
b. 1881 in a why did we
not have the Secret Service present moment, Charles Guiteau shot President
Garfield, who would later die.
c. 1890 the Congress
passed the Sherman Antitrust Act, outlawing monopolies.
d. 1962 the first
Wal-Mart store was opened in Rogers, Arkansas.
e. 1976 South and North
Vietnam were united to form the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Reflections on UFOs: “I read in one of the
scandal sheets that there are UFO aliens living right now down deep in the
Antarctic. I believe those things.” Tiny Tim. Perhaps that
falsetto voice scramble the singer’s brains Please enjoy the poems
