Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 16, 2017 Normally only viewed in Alaska and Canada, on the
spectacular front from New York to Washington residents may also be treated to
nature’s best light show, the Northern Lights; Sunday talk shows were dominated
by the Russian collusion delusion and the meeting by Donald Trump, Jr. with a
Russian and surprisingly coordination by the Ukrainian Embassy with the DNC to
reveal material damaging to Trump and Manafort (bad judgment on the part of
Donald Trump, Jr or as Adam Schiff would say as to the DNC “inappropriate” but
not illegal, only a huge distraction that is preventing at worst and delaying
at best the implementation of the Trump agenda of jobs, tax cuts, Obamacare
repeal and replacement, repatriation and border security to the real detriment
of the American people); Reds still do not have the votes to repeal and replace
and Trump is MIA in working the Senate; in another example that fraud crosses
all knows borders and nationalities, 66 people in several European countries
were charged for selling horse meat not fit for human consumption ($23 million annual
profits); Ann Coulter was moved out of her reserved comfort + with three inches
of leg room by Delta prompting a two hour Twitter War by her (best Twitter
response “Ann Coulter is having a bad day. Thank you Delta.”; on the sports
front Federer won the Men’s Wimbledon Title; hard to believe but Trump is
expected to certify that Iran is in compliance with the Iran nuclear deal; through
July 15, 2016 people have been shot in Chicago 354 of whom have died (hopefully
the ATF agents Trump has sent in will help put a damper on this carnage.
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to The
Police; factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote by Jimmy
Dean on an ice cream simile, hoping you are not inlapidated by today’s problems,
secure in the
knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like
weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you
with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event
and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1.
Holocaust Memorial Day (France)—commemorating
roundup on this day in 1942 of 13,152 Jews in Paris and their transport to
Auschwitz for extermination.
2. National
Ice Cream Day—celebrating the best way to beat the heat, a bowl of ice cream enhanced
by your favorite toppings.
3. 1983 Number One Song—the number one song in
1983 on a run of 8 weeks in that position was “Every Breath You
Take” by The Police. Here is a performance by the band of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMOGaugKpzs

4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “inlapidate” which means to petrify
which in dealing with the North Koreans we seem to be doing a miserable job but
at least superior to the feckless acts of Obama.
5. Rhyming
Can Be A Crime-celebrating the birth on this day in 1943 of Cuban poet and
author who initially supported Castro but like many Cubans sickened of this tyrant,
was jailed for publishing abroad and for being openly gay and was finally able
to join the thousands of Cubans that were allowed to flee to the U.S. only to
be diagnosed with AIDS and dying at age 47 of an overdose of drugs and alcohol.
On this day
in:
a. 1661 the first bank
notes in Europe were issued by Stockholms Banco.
b. 1790 the District of
Columbia, now known and vilified as the Swamp, became the capital of the United
States.
c. 1935 to the bane of
motorists present and in the future, the first parking meter was installed in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
d. 1999 John F. Kennedy,
Jr. crashed his plane of the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, killing him along with
his wife and sister-in-law.
e. 2015 in Chattanooga,
Tennessee Kuwaiti born naturalized citizen but radicalized Islamist Youssef Abdulazeez shot and killed four
Marines and one sailor at two military installations and wounded one cop before
being killed by the police. What is really frightening is that this Islamist
was working in a nuclear power plant but was fired when he failed a drug test.
Interesting
simile: “Love is the ice cream sundae
with all the marvelous coverings. Sex is the cherry on top.” Jimmy Dean noted
country western singer. Please enjoy the poems
