January 3 Ridley's Believe It or Not

In NFL football on Monday Night with less than 6 minutes played, Damar Hamlin, a safety for the Buffalo Bills made a tackle, then stood up and collapsed to the ground in cardiac arrest. CPR was started immediately and shortly an ambulance transferred him to a nearby hospital’s ICU where he currently resides in critical condition. The game will not be rescheduled this week but in an outpouring of concern and support of over $5 million dollars was quickly raised for his charity that provides toys to the underprivileged children while the entire team and support staff knelt in a circle in prayer and ESPN broadcaster Dan Orlofsky on the air prayed out loud to God to protect Hamlin. In another battleground this one political to elect the Speaker to replace Pelosi, the House is in its 4th vote with Kevin McCarthy unable to secure enough Red votes to be elected and in what may be a sign his chances are crumbling, freshman Congressman Bryon Daniels of Florida has announced he has switched his vote from McCarthy to Jim Jordan as the Reds look more and more like a clown show while the Blues would be popping corks if champagne were allowed on the House floor. I hope you enjoy today’s Ridley's Believe It Or Not  and find it worthy to read and if not reply “Unsubscribe” to be removed.
Ridley’s Believe It Or Not January 3, 2023
Noted Holidays: National Write to Congress Day, clueless as to who created this day but know it has been observed since 2006 to encourage people to express their views on subjects, they deem important even though unless a lobbyist or important donor the chances of a member of Congress reading and acting upon an epistle are probably slim, none or nonexistent.
Word of the Day: The word of the day is “adeciduate” which means an evergreen or conifer which describes a Christmas Tree to a tee.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The number 1 song on this day in 1990 was “Another Day in Paradise” by Phil Collins run of 4 weeks  starting on December 23, 1989 to share with 25 other songs achieving number 1 status while 15 acts achieved their first number 1 song.  Here is a music with lyrics video of Phil Collins performing “Another Day in Paradise”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At9FypGZ44M
Noted Birthdays: Kyle Rittenhouse, born on this day in 2003, who went to Kenosha, Wisconsin on August 25, 2020 to protect businesses from rioters violently protesting the serious wounding shooting of an African American, Jacob S. Blake, by police who thought he was reaching for a weapon. Kyle’s first victim was shot and killed after he reached for Kyle’s AR-15; his second victim was shot and killed after he beat Kyle with a skateboard and his last victim was shot after pointing a pistol at him. He became a poster child for the right of self-defense and was acquitted by the jury on all counts.
Notable Events that occurred on January 3
          1.      1959—To the joys of its residents suffering under a remote and uncaring Washington, D.C. Alaska was admitted to the United States as the 49th State.
          2.      1977—Apple Corporation which dropped below $2 Trillion market cap today was incorporated.
          3.       1990—Panamanian Dictator Manuel Noriega surrendered to invading U.S. Forces seeking to prosecute him for drug trafficking.
           4.       2015—The Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram attacked and destroyed the town of Baga in Borneo, Nigeria and started attacking towns from the 3rd to the 7th killing some 2,000 and leaving some 35,000 homeless.
           5.       2020—Iranian General Qaesem Soleimani, head of the Iranian Quds Force, was killed by an American drone strike dear Baghdad Airport.
Opposing Quotes of the Day:  Ted Fisher, columnist New York Times: “If reports are true, assassinating Iran’s Soleimani would represent a major, overt act of war. Functionally and legally, it’s not a ‘risk of war’ or ‘tantamount to war.’ It is war outright, and against a country that has invested years of preparation into enduring just that. This is not Saddam’s half-decomposed Iraq or some bunch of North Vietnamese irregulars. Iran is a big, sophisticated regional power with far greater military capabilities than any country the US has gone to war with since WW2.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “Just as Israel has the right of self-defense, the United States has exactly the same right. Qaesem Soleimani is responsible for the death of American citizens and many other innocent people. He was planning more such attacks.”
