January 13 Ridley's Believe It Or Not

Classified documents generated during Biden’s tenure as Vice President are popping up in different locations like the game of Whack-A-Mo with Biden and his Administration especially his inept Press Secretary struggling to deliver explanations other than Biden vowing he takes seriously the storage of classified documents (the photo of a trove of classified documents next to his Corvette in his garage somewhat belies that vow). Jim Jordan, the new House Judiciary Committee probably to the relief of Hunter Biden has announced the investigation of Biden’s handling of classified documents which under an Obama era Executive Order Biden as Vice President did have the power to declassify but so far Biden has not alleged he did declassify the documents in question. The two most populous nations in the world who are armed with nuclear weapons China and India are rattling sabers over some 15,000 square miles of mountainous territory which India claims and China is occupying (India which relies heavily on Russia for its weaponry is experiencing difficulties in sourcing Soviet arms due to the war in Ukraine between Russia and Ukraine just as the U.S. is facing hurdles in supplying Ukraine and its own forces acerbated by increasing demands from Taiwan to be able to defend itself against a Chinese invasion. California is bracing itself for another storm with massive rain, rain induced mudslides and snow this weekend. I hope you enjoy today’s Ridley's Believe It Or Not  and find it worthy to read and if not reply “Unsubscribe” to be removed.
Ridley’s Believe It Or Not January 13, 2023
Noted Holidays: Blame Someone Else Day, Friday the 13th is often feared by the superstitious who are triskaidekaphobiacs at heart but the observance was supposedly created by Anne Moeller of Clio, Ohio who was late  for work on August 13, 1982, the first Friday 13th of the year because her alarm clock failed to go off and she wanted to blame someone else. Given the proclivity of politicians to always try to blame someone else the day should be observed more often that the first Friday 13th of each year.
Word of the Day: The word of the day is “adiaphoresis” which means an inability to perspire which means of world of hurt for those with the problem in hot weather or intensive exercise.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The number 1 song on this day in 1986 was “Say You, Say Me” by Lionel Ritchie on a run of 2 weeks following 4 in 1985 to share with 29 other songs achieving number 1 status while 20 acts achieved their first number 1 song.  Here is a music video of Lionel Ritchie performing “Say You, Say Me”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91AzUkwiFyo
Noted Birthdays: Travon DaShawn Frank Smart, an American rapper better known to his fans as Jimmy Wapo, was born on this day in 1997. He was believed to be the leader of a violent gang from the Hill District of Pittsburgh and his career came to an early end after he was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Pittsburgh on June 18, 2018 and survived by 3 very young children.
Notable Events that occurred on January 12:
          1.     1953—Pravda announced the arrest of 9 eminent physicians in Moscow, 6 of whom were Jews, of plotting to poison members of the Politburo. Fortunately for the accused, Stalin died before their trial and the charges against them were dismissed.
          2.     1982—In a failed attempt to imitate the Miracle on the Hudson which would occur years later, Florida Air Flight 90, a Boeing 737, crashed shortly after takeoff into the 14th Street Bridge over the Potomac River before then falling into the river, killing 4 motorists on the bridge and 78 passengers and crew on the plane with only 4 passengers and 1 crew member surviving.
          3.     1998—39 year old gay writer Alfredo Ormando set himself on fire outside of St. Paul’s Basilica to protest the Catholic Church’s position on homosexuality; 2 Vatican City police managed to put out the flames but not before they burned over 90% of his body and he died in a hospital 10 days later.
          4.     2020—Alarm bells went off of the dangers of a pandemic as the Thai Ministry Of Health announced the first of many cases to follow worldwide of COVID-19 outside of China.
          5.     2021—Outgoing President Donald Trump who would leave office in 7 days was impeached for the second time and acquitted by the Senate but now as a result of McCarthy now in possession of the gavel thousands of hours of surveillance footage will be released which may reveal the extent to which undercover federal agents were involved in leading the demonstrations.
         Quote of the Day
Andy Abrahams Wilson, producer of a 40-minute documentary film called Alfredo’s Fire for the San Francisco-based Open Eye Pictures to commemorate the self-immolation: "Fire was the perfect allegory for the experiences of LGBT people. Fire is at once a self-annihilation and harkens back to the Middle Ages when homosexuals were burned at the stake".
