Ridley’s Believe It Or Not January 19, 2023
Noted Holidays: National Gun Appreciated Day, Created by Larry Ward and Political Media, Inc. on January 4, 2013 and first celebrated on January 19, 2013 to protest President Obama’s assault on the 2nd Amendment which mass shootings highlighted by the MSM tend to obscure the contributions to public safety made by law-abiding  conceal and carry permit holders confronting evil shooters with guns.
Word of the Day: The word of the day is “adnomination” which means punning which is the lowest form of humor.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The number 1 song on this day in 1982 was “Physical” by Olivia Newton-John on a run of 4 weeks following 6 in 1981 to share with 14 other songs achieving number 1 status while 10 acts achieved their first number 1 song.  Here is a music video with lyrics displayed of Olivia Newton-John  performing “Physical”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWz9VN40nCA
Noted Birthdays: Dolly Parton, an American singer, prolific songwriter, actress and philanthropist best known as a “Country Music Legend” who was finally nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame which she initially refused and then accepted and has achieved so many awards and nominations it would fill many pages to list them and in a tribute to her faith and personality has been married to her husband Carl Dean since May 30, 1966.
Notable Events that occurred on January 19:
          1.     1953—Almost 74% of the televisions in the United States were tuned in to watch Lucille Ball give birth to a son Desi Arnez, Jr. aka “Little Ricky.”
          2.     1981—On the eve of a new sheriff in town as President of the United States, Iran wisely signed an agreement to release on the next day 52 American diplomats and citizens that had been held hostage for 444  days following an occupation by “student” militants of the American Embassy in Tehran.
          3.     1983—Apple Corporation’s Lisa, the first personal computer with a graphical user interface and a mouse was released to the public.
          4.     1997—PLO leader Yasser Arafat returned to Hebron, the last Israeli controlled settlement on the West Bank to a huge celebration after 30 years.
          5.     2007—A 4 man team N2i completed the 1093 mile trek to the Pole of Inaccessibility in Antarctica to become the first to visit and the first to not use any motorized transport using only skis and kites.
Quote of the DayKenneth Feinberg, former special master of the fund created to pay Tehran Embassy Hostages and then later expanded to include 9/11 Victims:
The idea that 9/11 victims can come into this fund and basically, in overwhelming numbers, get a pro rata share of limited money is improper, unfair and inequitable. Congress ought to change the law to prevent 9/11 related claims from being under this program. I think they are right about that…I was left in the position of saying: ‘To all of you hostages and hostage families, I wish I could help you. Insofar as you take the position that your money should be accelerated and paid in full, I immediately say you make a very convincing case. [But] that’s not the statute.’ ”
