Ridley's Believe It Or Not July 6 history International Kissing Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—July 6, 2014:  Trust all are enjoying a marvelous safe and sane  4th Weekend and will enjoy these holidays of note, factoids and a quote from an anonymous source. Also hope you enjoy this poem on what Newport Beach on the 4th too often degenerates into. http://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
            1. Jed Clampett Day —mourning the death of a great American actor on this day in 2003, Buddy Ebsen star of among other TV series, The Beverly Hillbillies  and Barnaby Jones and but for an allergy would also have been immortalized as the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz.
            2. Happy Trails Day—mourning the loss of that iconic screen cowboy Roy Rogers.
            3. National Fired Chicken Day—what better way to celebrate the 4th of July weekend with soaring beef prices than to enjoy some fried chicken at the park or beach—forget KFC, go to Popeyes Louisiana Fried Chicken to declare culinary independence from the KFC grease and fat.
            4. International Kissing Day—celebrating that unique human act, a kiss. Today if you observe the holiday forgo the garlic and pickled herring and reach for the Listerine.
On this day in:
           a. 1885 Louis Pasteur first successfully tested his vaccine for rabies on Joseph Meister, a boy who had been bitten by a rabid dog.
           b. 1934 the first Major League Baseball All Star game was held in Chicago’s Comiskey Park with the American League prevailing 4-2 over the National League.
           c. 1947 that iconic and very deadly automatic rifle the AK-47 was first produced.
A thought to remember on International Kissing Day: “In trying to get our own way, we should remember that kisses are sweeter than whine. ~Author Unknown
