Ridley's Believe It Or Not July 30 History National Cheesecake Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—July 30, 2014:  Another meager day of holidays but you are probably on vacation anyway and do not need the time off. Hope you enjoy what is posted, along with the factoids and quote from Mark Skousen with a smile on your face and a slice of cheesecake on a plate.
           1. National Cheesecake Day—a great way to end a meal—head out to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch or dinner today.
           2. I’ll Be Back  Day—commemorating the birthday on this day in 1947 of the Terminator—Arnold Schwarzenegger.
           3. Father–in-law Day—if mothers-in-law have their day, then we males need our day also.  .
On this day in:
           a. 1965 to the eternal gratitude of the baby boomers, President Lyndon Johnson signed into law the Social Security Act of 1965 which created Medicare and Medicaid.
           b. 1975 Teamster Union President Jimmy Hoffa disappeared from the parking lot of the Manchu Fox Restaurant in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan never to be seen again.
           c. 2006 after 42  years of performances the musical show Tops of the Pops was broadcast for the last time on BBC Two.
A sobering thought on Social Security and Medicare as the baby boomers are now collecting benefits: “The fundamental flaw in Social Security and Medicare is that they violate the welfare principle in economics. The welfare principle forms the fundamental basis of all charitable work in churches and other private organizations: assist those who need help, and equally important, don’t assist individuals who can take care of themselves.” Mark Skousen, noted American economist and investment adviser
