We all know
that obesity is hazardous to one’s health
Diabetes,
heart attacks and strokes move on the body in stealth
Overeat over
a lifetime without exercise the pounds to shed
Much sooner
than later, you find yourself crippled or dead
But entering
a contest to splurge does not a lifetime of obesity make
Hot dogs,
pies, or eggs powered down as fast as the stomach can take
Cannot imagine
the drive and desire to power down 60 hot dogs in a 10 minute stretch
The thought
of all that food crammed quickly down makes one want to retch
So the news
out of South Dakota on the 4th of July
Was tragic
as a contestant eating hot dogs choked and died
Shoving food
down at ever increasing speed
Violates a
basic rule one should heed
As one’s
mother always used to at meal time state
Chew your
food slowly there’s always time to eat what’s on your plate
Life is, even
at a hot dog eating contest, always on a short term lease
At least the
eater was enjoying what he liked when his breathing ceased.
