1977 at Ohio State University, the Big Ear, a radio telescope as part of a SETI
project (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) detected a 28 second narrow
band radio band transmission not from our solar system. The human volunteer who
detected it wrote “Wow” on the margin of the recording and the signal forever more
was known as the Wow Signal.

2013 the Smithsonian announced the discovery of a new species the olinguito, in
the rain forests of Columbia. The animal is related to racoons but resembles a
cross between a slender cat and a small black bear.
