Holmes Gets Life w/o Parole

All lives matter even those who in a fit of mental anger or rages
Rip out from the book of future life the innocents’ to be lived pages
Going to watch a movie only to be gunned down by a mad dog
In a mentally disturbed fog
Given the brutality, a verdict from the jury somewhat a surprise
Life without parole, as opposed to an early lethal injection demise
To spend the rest of one’s life in prison in a small cell
No place to escape the hopelessness of a confining hell
40 plus years to be deprived of all manner of the experiences that garnish our human traits
Is a sentence of shear desperation and depravity for Holmes that will be his fate
It is hard for this poet as he ages in iambic rhyme to the death penalty ever justify
With the years of delay and lawyers’ fees the deterrence effects completely denied
All lives matter, even Holmes,  who will at the end of his lease on this earth in a cell expire
Jurors freed of the agony of whether they would stand in the shoes of God to a human being retire
If we are ever lucky enough for the Radical Islamist our workplace violence President will not name
Deny them the martyrdom they desire and give them a sentence exactly the same
