The Birds--Marine Sequel?

In a strange way the summer is looking like a marine sequel to the movie “The Birds”
With increased shark attacks on the East Coast that being in shallow water has not deterred
We know as humans when it comes to the oceans we are at a disadvantage when it comes to sharks that we must coexist
Absent armor and a spear gun it is next to impossible to a shark bite resist
Even if we wore clothing that “I am not a sea lion or seal “ said
Sharks are not evolved enough to have that message understood much less read
But the news today out of a Florida river is both tragic and bizarre
A sturgeon leaped into a boat hitting three people with a force like a moving subcompact car
A five year old girl hit by the fish tragically died
Her mother and older brother injured but  survived
This poet knows that salmon jump en route to the spawning streams
And flying fish off Catalina flying out of the water are like a surrealistic dream
But jumping sturgeon known as primitive, toothless fish?
Best prized for their prized caviar dish
Also live longer than humans and can jump from the water to a height of seven feet
At over 200 pounds not a flying force a small child or adult would want to greet
A majority of the classes of the species have endangered classifications
Wonder if a mere accident or a sturgeon’s growing sense of being overfished frustration
In any event another example that life is precious and our lease can be short term
Always hug your children and live life with a purpose is the lesson from this tragedy to be learned
