American Drive at Starbucks

In a world where too many of the gathering places are only taverns and bars
Where any attempt to have a conversation is usually below par
False fronts and a lot of stranger meeting stress
So easy to the open hand of human feelings suppress
Yet somehow over coffee on a July 23 day in a Harbor and Wilson corner Starbucks
Where more and more of us come to study or office confines chuck
No matter the intensity of the study or need to complete a job
The basic human instinct to reach out and converse is not robbed
Two live reasons why this country in the end will excel
Across this poet while on preparing for exams they dwell
One to be a dentist, the other off to graduate school
Anyone who writes that this nation’s youths’ drive has fallen off is a fool
Eric and Cindy whom I believe in separate paths will be a very successful pair
When it comes to creativity we are beyond compare
Both like victors and kings of old a herald or a Homer need
A poem to announce the success of their efforts in the future that we will read
