International Literacy Day—honoring this observance created by the UN in 1965 to honor the great trait of our species which over 800 million adults lack--the ability to read; what we have done with the knowledge so gained is often another matter.                                                   
           2. Fiestas de Santa Fe—celebrating since 1712 the reoccupation by the Spanish of Santa Fe, New Mexico.  
           3. World Physical Therapy Day—celebrating the services of physical therapists who manage to keep us mobile and as we age that is a great concept. 
           4. National Date-Nut Bread Day-–celebrating a great treat.

             b. 1966 the first episode of Star Trek was shown on NBC.
             c. 1974 President Ford pardons Richard Nixon for any crimes committed while in office.
             d. 1988 in a preview of what is happening yesterday at Yosemite; Yellowstone National Park was closed for the first time in its history due to fires.
