March 8, 10:00 a.m.
The glass ceiling is back as Aliy Zirkle is no longer in the lead and to
find a woman musher in the top ten you have to go to mush past 6 men as the a
bunched group of 8 mushers only 1 hour and 17 minutes apart have left Tanana
227 miles from the start in the early morning starting at 1:07 a.m. (hope it is
not snowing with a full moon): Wade Marrs, Dallas Seavey, Peter Kaiser, Mitch
Seavey, Nicolas Petit, Joar Ulsom, Michelle Phillips and one minute behind in 8th
place Aliy Zirkle. The leading rookie in
15th place is Sebastian Vergnaud from Rioux, France. Ray Redington,
Jr., the grandson of Joe Redington, Sr., a cofounder of the Iditarod, is in 17th
place and has left Tenana at 5:09 this morning; Dee Dee Jenrowe is in 38th place
still in Tenana. The Berington twins Anna and Kristy are 45th and 46th
arriving in Tenana two minutes apart; rookie Laura Neese only 20 years old has
dropped back to 57th ; Cindy Abbot a true inspiration for us all is
in 68th place out of Manley; Ellen Halverson has moved out of last
place leading the rookie Jimmy Lebling out of Manley by almost 2 ½ hours. Not
sure who the very tired looking musher is but he bears a strong resemblance to
Paul Ryan during hunting season:
