Iditarod Tails March 10 4:30 p.m.
First five leaders Mitch Seavey, Nicolas Petit, Jessie Royer,
Michelle Phillips and Ralph Johannessen have checked into a balmy 23 degree Husila,
478 miles from the start with Seavey having a 9 hour 41 minute lead over 5th
place Johannessen. Big news earlier is that one of the mushers Linwood Fielder
fell asleep mushing outside of the Ruby Checkpoint and fell out of his sled but
his dogs continued into the check point to bed down for the night and Fielder
who woke up when his face hit the ice had to hoof it into Ruby. From the full
standings below he is in Galena bemoaning the fame of falling off the sled and
giving credence that sled dogs are head and paws ahead of self driving cars
when it comes to getting from point A to point B. Here is a photo of one of his
very cute dogs resting on his straw mattress in Ruby waiting for Fielder to complete
his hoof into Ruby.
