Ridley's Believe It Or Not For January 28, 2016

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 28, 2016, 359 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term. Interesting theater with Trump who like a spoiled child took his soccer ball home because he has a five month festering grudge against Megyn Kelly and Fox News would not accede to his rules to replace her as a moderator of the Republican debate. I think this may be Pickett’s Last Charge for Trump so I hope you enjoy the theater Thursday Night. As always, I hope you enjoy Thursday’s  holidays and observances, music links to Danny and the Juniors and USA for Africa; factoids of interest, a relevant quote from Michael Jackson, looking forward to enjoying some peanut butter, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Data Privacy Day promoting the need for awareness of protecting privacy online and in social media, more so than ever as more and more businesses and the government are being hacked into to the point this should be a daily observance not once a year.
2. Plugin Developer Day—celebrating the efforts and accomplishments of plugin software developers who on this day in 2009 had created 4,000 WordPress plugins.
3. 1958 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1958 on a run of five weeks in that position Singing At The Hop by Danny And The Juniors. Here is a link to Danny And The Juniors performing At The Hop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3KjDpvmtwU  Check out those buttoned suits with handkerchiefs in the front pockets—so classic pre Beatles.
4. National Blueberry Pancake  Day—celebrating a great and easy way to get your antioxidants along with some buckwheat and calories in the form of Maple syrup.
5. Slim In Name Only Not in Wealth--celebrating the birthday on this day in 1940 of the man known as the Warren Buffet of Mexico and reputed to be one of the richest men in the world, George Slim.
On this day in:
a. 1807 London’s Pall Mall became the first street to be lit by gaslight.
b. 1935 Iceland became the first Western Country to legalize therapeutic abortion.
c. 1956 Elvis Presley made his first appearance on national television.
d. 1985 supergroup USA for Africa (United Artists Support Africa) recorded the hit single We Are The World to raise almost $100 million for famine relief in Ethiopia. Here is a link of the recording to see if it does not bring tears to your eyes or at least moisten them while you try to recognize the artists many of whom like Michael Jackson are no longer with us but others like Kenny Rodgers still are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9BNoNFKCBI
e. 1986 in a chilling reminder of the dangers faced in the exploration of space, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded minutes after takeoff killing all seven astronauts on board including school teacher Christa McAuliffe who was looking forward to becoming the first teacher in space.
Reflections from Michael Jackson as written in  We Are The World:
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
one So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
 We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me
Michael Jackson  If such a large group of artists with egos that make Donald Trump look like a shy insecure person could come together in a recording song and record a tremendous performance and not get paid for it other than the satisfaction of helping their fellow human beings, one would think the Reds and Blues that infest Washington might be able to a least try.
