Ridley's Believe It Or Not for January 5, 2016 National Bird Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 5, 2016, 381 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term. Trust your weekend was a good one and you survived the tanking of the market yesterday, and your Tuesday is off to a great start with all or a majority of your  New Year’s Resolutions still being observed; as always, I hope you enjoy Tuesday’s holidays and observances,  music links to Lionel Richie and Buddy Holly; factoids of interest, a relevant quote from Dwight D. Eisenhower, looking forward to enjoying some whipped cream, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. National Bird Day—celebrated by thousands of avid bird watchers and bird owners although watching today in California will be a challenge given the projected rain and snow heading our way.
2. 12th Day of Christmas—hopefully your true love did not send you 12 drummers drumming our if he or she did your neighbors are all on vacation and do not hear the noise.
3. 1986 Number One S ong—celebrating the number one song in 1986 on a run of four weeks in that position Say You, Say Me by Lionel Richie. Here is a link to Lionel Richie performing Say You, Say Me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91AzUkwiFyo
4. National Whipped Cream Day—celebrating one of the great ways to top a hot chocolate, a strawberry shortcake or slice of pumpkin pie.
5.  The New Kryptonite Is A Luger—commemorating the birthday on this day in 1914 of George Reeves who starred as Superman for many years but may have fatally shot himself on June 16, 1959.
On this day in:
a. 1757 King Louis XV survived an assassination attempt by Robert-Francois Damiens who became the last person in France to be put to death by drawing and quartering which is a really gruesome and painful way to die but had been the traditional penalty for regicide.
b. 1914 the Ford Motor Company announced the institution of an 8 hour work day and at a wage of $5.00 per day ($117 in today’s dollars).
c. 1957 in a speech before Congress President Eisenhower in response to moves by the Soviet  Union in Egypt announced the Eisenhower Doctrine wherein any country in the Middle East threatened by aggression of another state could request American economic and military aid. The Soviet Union paid careful attention to Eisenhower as opposed to the Russians today who view Obama with his Syrian red line in the sand empty threat as a pathetic weakling.
d. 1959 Buddy Holly released his last record “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore.” Sadly, this great talent was killed along with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens in a plane crash 29 days later.
e. 1972 President Nixon authorized the construction of the Space Shuttle.
Reflections that all voters should take with them when to go to vote this fall: “The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.” Dwight D. Eisenhower What a perfect explanation on why Obama is incapable of leadership and a chilling reason why no one in their right mind vote for Hillary Clinton who is completely without integrity.
