Ridley's Believe It Or Not—August 19, 2014Trust your weekend was a good one and that you enjoy the holidays of some distinction along with the factoids and quote from Linus Pauling Hoover with a smile on your face, a positive attitude and the will power to not eat the entire bag pf potato chips.
,          1. World Humanitarian Day-- commemorating the deaths of 21 UN personnel engaged in humanitarian work in Iraq in a Baghdad bombing on this day in 2003. 
           2. National Aviation Day—celebrating on this day, the birthday of Orville Wright, since 1939 the development of aviation in the United States.
           3. National Potato Day--celebrating that delicious tuber first domesticated in Peru and Bolivia around 5,000-8,000 BCE which was brought back to Europe to spread across the world.  
           4. List Day—celebrating the birthday of Malcolm Forbes, multimillionaire publisher of Forbes Magazine who was famous for his lavish parties and lists of the wealthiest Americans and wealthiest people in the world.
            5. VC Day---commemorating not venture capitalists or the Viet Cong, but rather Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling who was a staunch proponent of Vitamin C dosages to remain healthy and fight out disease who died on this day in 1994 at the age of 93 proving his theory of the effects of Vitamin C usage.    
On this day in
             a. 1909 the first automobile race was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway..
             b. 1989 Radio Caroline, a pirate radio station in the North Sea was raided by the British and Dutch governments.
             c. 1989 several hundred East Germans crossed  into Austria at the border between Hungary and Austria during the Pan-European Picnic which began the process leading to opening of the Berlin Wall and collapse of the Soviet Union.
