Ridley’s Believe It Or
Not For September 14, 2017 In
politics you cannot forge compromise if there is a complete absence of trust
which was demonstrated by the two icons of “integrity and honesty” in the
Blues, Pelosi and Schumer, who after last night’s dinner with the president
touted that a deal on DACCA had been reached and the Blues would work on border
security without a wall which was quickly followed up by a Trump tweet to the
contrary and a pledge the Wall will be built (déjà vu on why the Reds would not
work with Obama because he could not be trusted); Kim is at it again amidst
intel that work consistent with another nuclear test preparation taking place
in North Korea; 19 year old rapper XXX Tenacion is under rightfully harsh
criticism for releasing a music video “Look at Me” depicting a white child on a
stage being lynched far too realistically while a black child looks on with a
background of clips of police “brutality”, black riots and racial violence—sick
images in this videos to send a political message: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qku2WZ7aRYw;
Jemele Hill a black ESPN anchor alleged that Trump is a white supremacist and
not fit to be commander in chief which given the fact that a majority of ESPN’s
viewers are most likely Trump supporters is not only outrageous but really stupid
and meriting her instant dismissal (ironic that Trump will be signing a resolution
condemning white supremacists); the National Park Service in another example of
the waste in the government and sheer stupidity has awarded Cal Berkeley almost
$100,000 to study the legacy of the Black Panther Party (since when is the
history of the Black Panther Party with the purview of the NPS?); the death
toll from Irma stands at 31 as millions of Floridians are without power in
appalling heat and humidity; through September 12,
2017 in Chicago the number of people being shot climbed to 2676, and the death
toll again on the rise to 459 while the city seems to not be doing anything to
prevent the killing and maiming of its minority residents—a real definition of
racism which is deadly.
As always, I
hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, music links to Elvis Presley and XXX Tenacion,
factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote on OPEC by Ed
Markey, hoping you meet someone worthy of the term kalon secure in the knowledge
that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the
recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Exaltation of the Holy Cross—observed
since 335 as a day in which to bring the Holy Cross replica into the Church of
the Holy Sepulchre so the faithful can pay homage to it.
2. National Live
Creative Day—created in April of 2016 to promote creativity as a means to
improve one’s life (holidays and observances far and few between on this day).
3. 1956
Number One Song— the number one song in 1956 on a run of 11 weeks in
that position was “Don’t Be Cruel/Hound Dog” by Elvis Presley. Here is a performance
of the two songs by the King: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViMF510wqWA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eHJ12Vhpyc
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “kalon” which means beauty that is
more than skin deep which hopefully describes your spouse or significant
other.
5. Talent
Is No Defense—celebrating the birth on this day in 1983 Amy Winehouse a very
talented singer and songwriter whose alcohol and drug use resulted in her dying
of alcohol poison at the age of 27.
On this
day in:
a. 1841
George Frideric Handel completed his oratorio Messiah.
b. 1960
to the bane of Western drivers, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting
Companies (OPEC) was formed.
c. 1984 Joe Kittinger became the first person to
solo a gas balloon across the Atlantic.
d. 1994
the Commissioner of MLB due to the strike that had begun in August cancelled
the rest of the season including the playoffs and World Series.
e. 1998 MCI Communications
and World Com completed their $37 billion merger creating MCI World Com.
Reflections
on the damage down to our economy by OPEC: “The Christians had a better chance
against the lions than the American consumer has against the OPEC cartel.” Ed
Markey. Liberal Blue Senator from Massachusetts I would add the observation
that during the Obama years, his war on fossil fuels aided and abetted OPEC’s
war against Americans’ pocket books. Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you
