Ridley’s
Believe It Or Not For August 22, 2016 Only 78 waning days
to go for Trump to pivot before we elect a new president and 259 days
since Hillary has held a formal press conference (where is the outrage of the
press?); in the photo op department, after being ridiculed for playing golf
while thousands of homes were damaged by flooding with 13 people killed, Obama
finally is going to follow the footsteps of Trump and go to Louisiana without
making any fund raising stops; the email pay to play scandal for Hillary keeps
getting worse as they reveal Huma Abedin, one of Hillary’s top advisers who
worked for a radical Muslim journal for 12 years, providing expedited access
for the Crown Prince of Bahrain who committed to $32 million in donations to
the Clinton Foundation; in a close the barn door after the cows have escaped
moment the Clinton campaign announced her foundation will no longer accept foreign
and corporate donations if she is elected (what about speaking fees for Bill
and what about the Clinton Global Imitative?) while Trump is demanding that her
foundation be shut down immediately; the over 10,000 emails that were recovered
by the FBI and were turned over to the State Department over six weeks ago are
now subject to a federal judge’s order to on an expedited basis review them so
they can be released (so much for her lie that she turned over all work related
emails); in what may prove to be a bad political move, growing concern over
Hillary’s physical fitness to serve; watch for more political ads from gun
advocates like the NRA as Hillary’s immediate legislation will include bills to
make gun manufacturers liable for mass shootings; more chilling news after the suicide
bombing in Turkey, the Iraqi police arrested another 12 year old wanna-be
suicide bomber before he could detonate his suicide vest; and more cases of
Zika reported in Florida—we are running out of time here while the Blues in the
Senate blocked a House funding bill and Miami schools are distributing insect
repellent to students returning to school.
On the sports front, Ryan Lochte was
just dropped by Speedo as a promoter and the USOC will be looking into
punishment of him for his false narrative of a hold up; NBC took it in the tank
for its Olympics coverage; and former Laker star Kobe Bryant and his partner
Jeff Siebel announced the formation of a venture capital fund into which they
will put $100 million of their own money.
As Trump is becoming more presidential, going
to www.lyingcrookedhillary.com
is a great way to start your day along of course with www.alaskanpoet.blogspot.com
and reading Clinton Cash would be a
great read to understand the quid pro quo mentality of the Clintons.

1. National Tooth Fairy Day—this
is one of a child’s favorite holiday as it involves the receipt of money after
a baby tooth is lost and goes back hundreds of years but really popularized in
the 1920’s with tooth paste and toothbrush companies using tooth fairies to
promote sale of their products and encouraging children to use good dental
hygiene—if a parent be happy that your child has only one set of baby teeth as
opposed to numerous sets like Great Whites.
2. National Be An Angel Day—created
by Jayne Howard Feldman in 1993 to promote acts of kindness and to help others
in need although like many observances this is an observance that should be
celebrated daily to benefit the angel and the person benefited.
3. 1979 Number One Song—celebrating the number
one song in 1979 on a run of six weeks in that position “My Sharona” by The Knack.
Here is a link to The Knack performing “My Sharona.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1T71PGd-J0
4. National Eat A Peach Day—celebrating another great fruit which
is really cheap this time of year ($.88 a pound in Ralphs yesterday).
5. The Show Must Go On--celebrating the birth on this day in 1939 of Valerie Harper three time Emmy winning actress and former chorus line dancer who was diagnosed with incurable brain cancer in January of 2013 and told she had only a few months to live; the doctors were wrong and with drugs she is still alive and was strong enough to compete in Dancing With The Stars.

On this day in:
a. 1831 Nat Turner’s slave rebellion commenced in Southampton
County, Virginia it was crushed in two days but approximately 60 whites and 250
blacks were killed; Turner managed to hide out for two months until captured,
tried and hung.
b. 1864 in a move to humanize war, the First Geneva Convention
governing the treatment of wounded or sick during combat and protecting
civilians and establishments provided care to the sick and wounded was signed
by twelve nations.
c. 1952 the
French penal colony on Devil’s Island to the relief of those there or who in
the future might be sent there was closed but the horrors of being confined
there were portrayed in the movie Papillon
starring Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen.
d. 2007 in a rough day to be a pitcher, the Texas Rangers
overcame an early 3-0 Baltimore lead and defeated the Baltimore Orioles 30-3 and set
the record for scoring the most runs in a Major League Baseball; worse for the
pitching staff of the Orioles the Rangers won the second game of the
doubleheader 9-7.
e. 2007 in a bad day for the sellers of antivirus software, the Storm worm botnet sent out over 50 million emails in a single day with millions of computers infected and proving once again never open an attachment sent by someone you do not recognize or trust. Reflections on giving on this National Angels Day: "If instead of a gem, or even a flower, we should cast the gift of a loving thought into the heart of a friend, that would be giving as the angels give."
