Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For
August 10, 2016
Only 89 days to go for Trump to pivot
before we elect a new president and 250
days since Hillary has held a formal press conference (where is the outrage of
the press?); Clinton campaign is making the ludicrous claim that Trump is
advocating violence against Hillary as opposed to calling on 2nd
Amendment supporters to organize and vote against her and the leftist biased
media is buying it hook line and sinker; Hillary gave a long speech on her
economic plan calling for more taxes, more regulations that a strangling
business and a promise (hard to believe given the money she and Bill have received)
to curtail Wall Street; while Hillary had not a single mention of ISIS, Trump
is charging that the creation of ISIS as a major terrorist threat is directly
attributable to Obama and Hillary as revelations that CENCOM was being forced
to cook its intel books to provide skewed info on ISIS; Blues are terrified
that the hacking of the DNC was much larger than revealed and fear the release
of damaging emails prior to the election; Obamacare premiums are expected to go
through the roof and worse for the Hillary campaign will be mailed out days
prior to the election; while Obama is playing golf, a chilling reminder of how
dangerous the world is with news that Ukraine has put its troops near Crimea on
combat alert; in another what we do not need moment, LAPD shot and killed a 14
year old Latino who was tagging in Boyle Heights (police were wearing body cams
which one hopes will show the decedent was armed and firing at the officer).
On the sports front, British golfer Justin
Rose made the first hole in one at the Rio Olympics in 112 years; Kathy Ledecke
won her third Gold Medal and Michael Phelps will be seeking two more Gold
Medals today to add to the U.S. total of 11.

Obama, while looking forward to enjoying some raspberry tarts, blessed with a
positive attitude and secure in the

1. Presidential Joke Day—laughing
not a jokes about presidents but rather at jokes by them; celebrated due to Ronald
Reagan on this day on a sound check before a broadcast joking “Today I have
signed legislation that outlaws the Soviet Union forever. We begin bombing in
five minutes” Unfortunately the joke was ultimately leaked causing great
consternation among our allies and the Soviet Union.
2. Annual Medical Checkup Day—creating
awareness of the need for men and women to have an annual physical checkup especially
as we get older. Not sure why this date was chosen as many insurance companies
pay for a physical exam occurring in the first quarter of the year.
3. 1970 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1970 on a run of four weeks
in that position “Close To You by the Carpenters. Here is a link to the
Carpenters performing “Close To You” in concert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6inwzOooXRU
Great sibling duo but brother Richard fought addiction but beat it and Karen
died way too early from anorexia nervosa on February 4, 1984.
4. National Raspberry Tart Day—celebrating one of this poet’s favorite pastries.
5. An Apple A Day Keeps The Debt Collectors Away—celebrating the birth on this day in 1950 of Stephen Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple and the designer of the Apple I.
5. An Apple A Day Keeps The Debt Collectors Away—celebrating the birth on this day in 1950 of Stephen Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple and the designer of the Apple I.
On this day in:
a. 1896 Harvey Hubbell received a patent for a light bulb socket
with a pull chain to turn it off and on.
b. 1951 the first Major League Baseball game to be televised in
color was played with the Brooklyn Dodgers defeating the Boston Brave 8-1.
c. 1965 the Watts Riots in Los
Angeles sparked by charges of police racism (sound familiar ala Baltimore and Ferguson?)
commenced and continued for six days until suppressed by the California
National Guard but not before 34 people were killed, over a 1,000 injured,
almost 3500 arrested and massive looting and destruction of property occurred.
d. 1994 a federal court jury awarded almost 300 million dollars
to commercial fishermen in Prince William Sound for damages caused by a massive
oil spill from the Exxon Valdez.
e. 2015 in a yes Virginia
there is a home field advantage, all 15 Major League Baseball teams playing at
home that day won, surpassing the former record of 12 home teams winning in
1914.
Although almost half
of Americans believe President Obama is a joke, he does or his speech writers
do have a great sense of humor: “These days, I look in the
mirror and I have to admit, I'm not the strapping young Muslim socialist that I
used to be.'' Barack Obama at the Washington Correspondents' Dinner 2013
