In NATO and the capitals of Europe the alarm bells are
ringing loud and clear
An invasion by Russia of Ukraine is minutes away so very near
Biden is issuing the same warning for all of us to hear
A ground war in Europe after the fall of the Soviet Union we thought we would
never have to fear
Biden has called in his National Security Council for an emergency meeting
But thinking this is a decisive response to a crisis about to burst is fleeting
Under a belief that instead of now Russia will still wait
Like a dollar short and a day late
The meeting is taking place not today but tomorrow
When Russian tanks, missiles and planes may already be unleashing death and
sorrow
Watching civilians taking up arms even if some are made of wood shows a will to
fight
Stalin’s starvation of millions of Ukrainians in the 30’s is still alive and
well in their memory sites
The nation who welcomed initially the Germans with flowers, bread and salt
Appear ready to die by the thousands to the Russian advances try to halt
Biden had months of warnings with Russian troop numbers continuing to grow
To be with NATO shipping all manner of arms and ammunition to Russian casualties
sow
Once again not a day but months late
Hope he beds down early to face the disaster that on Sunday may await
