November 22, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Stop the Violence Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For November 22, 2016 In a Gerald Ford like moment, President-Elect Trump indicated that he has no desire to pursue prosecution against Hillary Clinton for her use of her private email server or the allegations of pay to play quid pro quo at the Clinton Foundation (good for the country but perhaps should have imposed a requirement that all of the Clintons sever all ties and that no Clinton be allowed to give a paid speech to any donor that gave money to the Foundation); Gigi Hadid’s pathetic and insulting mockery of our soon to be First Lady has resulted in a tepid and pathetic “apology” that is disgusting; in a if one Ryan is good but two are better moment, Blue Tim Ryan is challenging the tyrannical Botox lady Nancy Pelosi to become the House Minority Leader (as much as I cannot stand the rabid partisan nature of this out of touch career politician who has never worked to my knowledge in the private she is a great lightening rod for Red opposition to the Blues and would be somewhat sad to see this person go although at the age of 76 she has long overstayed her welcome); the bus driver of the Chattanooga school bus that was involved in a collision that killed 5 students has been charged with vehicular homicide; and of the Thin Blue Line Front, Otis Tyrone McKane has been arrested for the execution of a San Antonio police officer (his motive was that he was upset over a custody battle—pathetic!).

1. National Humane Society Day--created in 1954 to fight cruelty and abuse of all animals from laboratory research animals to farm animals to pets and to promote spaying and neutering to cut down on the number of unwanted animals that end up in pound to be euthanized.
2. National Stop the Violence Day—given the homicide rate in places like Chicago, this observance created to protest gun violence and promote awareness of means to settle disputes without violence is an observance that should be promoted daily.
3. 1940 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1940 on a run of 9 weeks in that position “Only Forever” by Bing Crosby. Here is a recording of Bing Crosby performing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNCt6hkCUic
4. National Cashew Day—celebrating another great and tasty nut, whether roasted or raw.
5. The Weeds Are Always Greener on the Other Side of the Law—celebrating the birth on this day in 1921 of Jacob Cohen, better known to his fans as Rodney Dangerfield and a lifelong smoker of weed who after failing at trying to sell aluminum siding became a standup comedian and actor in such films as Caddyshack. His one liners ended finally in 2004 at the age of 82.
On this day in:
a. 1869 one of the last clipper ships built, the Cutty Sark was launched from Scotland to be employed as a tea clipper and now rests in a ship museum in England and on the labels of Cutty Sark.
b. 1935 the Pacific Ocean became much smaller as the China Clipper commenced commercial air service between Alameda, California and Manila.
c. 1963 the era of Camelot ended abruptly as John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.
d. 1995 to the dismay of animators worldwide, Toy Story, the first full length animated film created solely by computer-generated imagery was released.
e. 2002 more than 100 innocents were killed in Nigeria by Islamists protesting the holding of the Miss World Pageant there and an editorial in support of the pageant claiming that if the Prophet Muhammad were alive today he would want one of his wives to enter.
Reflections on the futility of violence as a means of resolving disputes: What has violence ever accomplished? What has it ever created? No martyr's cause has ever been stilled by an assassin's bullet. No wrongs have ever been righted by riots and civil disorders. A sniper is only a coward, not a hero; and an uncontrolled or uncontrollable mob is only the voice of madness, not the voice of the people. Robert Kennedy, killed by Sirhan Sirhan because of his support of Israel. The level of violence between Arab and Jew in Israel and Palestine 48 years after his death is proof positive of the veracity of this quote.
