1. D.A.R.E.
Day—ironic but D.A.R.E. which was started in Los Angeles in 1983 and
now is present in over 70% of the school districts in this nation follows by
one day 4/20 Day observed yesterday. Always observed on the third Thursday in
April to educate children on the dangers and ill effects of drug and alcohol
use.
2. Poem in Your Pocket Day—first observed in New York City in
2002 to encourage the spread of poetry by encouraging people to put their
favorite poem in their pocket to share with others. Please listen to my reading
of this poem in my pocket/ The rhyme is too big to be placed in my locket/ Only
a simple rhyme so please don’t knock it/ Poetry opens the heart and soul so don’t
block it/ If I could but convey to you my feelings on you in rhyme/ Would you
stop, listen and give me the time/ Then move closer and gently kiss my lips on
the poem’s end/ Hand in hand now strolling down the lane more than just friends. © April 21 Michael P. Ridley aka the
