Nothing will
without fail Nimbies unite
More than
the specter of neighborhood blight
Especially
when it involves power lines in one’s line of sight
Battle lines
now drawn in an area of Newport Heights
New move to put
the power lines underground
From an aesthetic
view seems most sound
Slight catch
is that such a move is not cheap
In fact the
cost is somewhat steep
At least it
can on one’s property tax bill be tacked
2500 or so for
ten years to end eyesores that property values detract
But the
power line that used to go from the pole to the home
Is outside
the ten year property tax assessment zone
To their pocketbook
surprise to the underground lines to connect
An upfront
five or ten grand check
Ironic that
in many parts of the world people would die
For a chance
to see electric power lines in the sky
Not so in
the land of yachts and a city hall with concrete waves
No wonder as Americans we
sometimes find it hard to save
