       1. World APS Day —observing since the need to create awareness of and raise money for research to find the cure of a deadly autoimmune disease, Antiphospholipid Syndrome which creates a whole host of deadly problems such as thrombosis and pregnancy issues such as miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.
       2. Donald Duck Day—honoring that lovable cartoon fowl that first appeared in the Wise Hen on this day in 1934.
        3. 1961 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1961 on a one week run Running Scared by the Roy Orbison. Here is a link to the Roy Orbison performing Running Scared with an apology to an inane Nissan commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH-AafkQPEo
        4.  National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day—celebrating pie that most people will have nothing to do with which means more for this highly evolved omnivore who would die for a pie made by his mother who in Alaska would use salmon berries if strawberries were not available.
        5.  Money Does Bring Happiness—commemorating the birthday on this day in 1926 of Happy Rockefeller the wife of one of the heirs to the Rockefeller fortune, Nelson Rockefeller, former governor of New York and Vice President appointed to serve under Gerald Ford.
On this day in:
       a. 1650 the first corporation in America, Harvard Corporation, the major administrative governing body of Harvard College (which grew into Harvard University over the years) was founded.
       b. 1915 William Jennings Bryan, Secretary of State, resigned due to Wilson’s refusal to declare war on Germany following its sinking of the Lusitania off the coast of Ireland by a submarine with the loss of 128 Americans.
       c. 1954 in the beginning of the end of what became to be known as McCarthyism Joseph Welch special counsel to the U.S. Army lashed out at Senator McCarthy in Senate hearings on alleged Communist Party infiltration of the Army and Defense Department.
        d. 1973 perhaps the best horse ever to race on a track, Secretariat, won the Triple Crown by winning the last leg, the Belmont Stakes, a feat repeated by American Pharaoh.
        e. 1978 in a stunning what took you so long moment to do the right thing, the Church of the Latter Day Saints opened its priesthood to “all worthy men,” thereby eliminating a 148 year ban against blacks serving as priests.
Reflections on the power of words to bring a rabid ideologue to his knees:
You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?” Special Counsel Joseph Welch rebuking Senator McCarthy over his witch hunt for Communists that did not exist.
