In the Lisa Fletcher kidnapping and murder case the Memphis PD
comes across as a bunch of Keystone Kops
On what would have prevented her murder it clearly flopped
Cleotha Abston released before his 24 year sentence for kidnapping had been as
the judge ordered fully served
On September 21, 2021 after Abston had been released the Memphis PD took a
sexual assault report with a sexual assault kit to DNA evidence preserve
Submitted it to the state to the DNA identify but did not request expedited
analysis so the kit was stored and ignored
Without the DNA the Memphis PD felt it could do no more
After Fletcher’s kidnapping the state testing lab went into full gear
Immediately the identity of Abston’s DNA would appear
So a year later and days after her death Abston was charged with September,
2021 assault and rape
Due to its failure to request results for a year for that crime he would escape
We will never know how much his escape from consequences emboldened him to Fletcher
kidnap and kill
But for Fletcher’s husband, parents, friends and and now motherless kid it is
like swallowing a very bitter pill
