1:00 p.m. In an Iditarod “photo” finish
Ulsom has mushed into Nome early this morning
at 3:00 a.m. with Petit finishing in 2nd at 5:15:03 a.m. and Seavey
finishing in 3rd
at 8:11:15. Reddington, Jr., Kaiser and Diehl have left Safety this morning and
should be in Nome before
dinner while 10 mushers have left White Mountain 77 miles away from Nome including 2
rookies, Jessie Holmes, born and raised in that great alpine state of Alabama, in
8th place, and
Matt Hall in 11th place. 7
mushers have arrive but not left White Mountain and all
have a great
chance to finish in the money as opposed to $1049 for those finishing 21st
or slower. Emily Maxwell the highest ranked female rookie
is in Koyuk 123 long miles from Nome. The Berington twins who
raced against each other as opposed to side by side have Anna in Elim in 22nd
place and Kristy in 38th
place in Koyuk. 8 mushers have now scratched and the last place musher is Steve
Watkins who left Grayling some 346 miles out of Nome
at 16:10 on the 12th one minute behind rookie Tara Cicatello.
Wonder if the two will race tandem to enjoy the pleasure of each other’s company during the week they may still have on the arctic
trail.
