November 21, 2017 Ridley's Believe It Or Not World Television Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For November 21, 2017 As we approach Thanksgiving to enjoy and hopefully share the bounty of this great nation, I hope you will enjoy and share my annual Thanksgiving Day Poem at your dinner table on Thursday http://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2017/11/thanksgiving-feast-2017.html;  The number of exposed reptilian brains keep expanding, the latest ones being long time host on CBS, PBS and Bloomberg, Charlie Rose who in his 70’s really should know better as woman victim after woman victim comes out to expose his sexual harassment with the cancellation of all his shows and Glenn Thrush, noted anti-Trump reporter for the NYT, who has been suspended when 4 women victims of his sexual harassment came out to accuse him; in California the Assembly Majority Whip, Raul Bocanegra, confronted by a colleague’s allegations of sexual misconduct is stepping down from his post and will not run for reelection; hopefully he will be joined by Al Franken who should resign following a second woman’s allegation of being sexually fondled by him; since we are nearing Thanksgiving Kim is aping the Pilgrims by banning his citizens joining together  for drinking, singing and other entertainment activities (how North Koreans survive life in the Hermit Kingdom  under his despotic rule defies understanding; that darling of the far left federal judge has flexed his muscles and banned Trump from cutting off funding to lawless sanctuary cities (but no complaints when the Department of Transportation years ago cut off federal funding to states that did not up the drinking age to 21 or impose during the fuel crisis in the 70’s a maximum speed limit) which judicial overreach will be heading to the left leaning 9th Circuit and then to SCOTUS who should strike down the ban with a stern reprimand to Judge Orrick; on the terror front the U.S. is following the adage of “follow the money” and is launching air strikes in Afghanistan destroying drug production facilities used by the Taliban to create heroin to fund their operations and the DHS has warned the drones like cars, vans and trucks can be used by terrorists to kill and maim; if a “you can run but you cannot hide moment” Rahmael Holt, the suspect who fatally shot a Pennsylvania police officer during a traffic stop—talk about a poster child mug shot for the death penalty swiftly if he is convicted:

;almost a stuck record or a gruesome  remake of Groundhog Day, Chicago style,  the carnage in Chicago continued unabated with total shootings by mostly minorities against mostly minorities in 2017 through November 19 increasing to 3278  of whom 572 (in what has to be a record no one on the 17th, the 18th or the 19th) have died while nothing is being done to hinder or prevent the killings of minorities by minorities.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to the Royals, factoids of interest for this day in history, hoping you have time to relax on a lanai at some point of time today, a relevant quote from Goldie Hawn on success and loving oneself, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. World Television Daycreated by the United Nations’ General Assembly to celebrate the impact of TV on society; why this media is celebrated when the great percentage of the planet has no access to it and most of its programming remains in the words of Newton Minnow “the great wasteland” is another great mystery.
      2. Red Mitten Day (Canada)—created before the Winter Olympics held in Vancouver, Canada on November 21, 2010 to raise money for the Canadian Olympic Team through the sale of red mittens and the donations of charitable foundation like the Hudson Bay Foundation and has raised millions in that regard.
        3. 2013 Number One Song—the number one song in 2013 on a run of 9 weeks in that position was “Lorde” by the Royals. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlcIKh6sBtc
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “lanai” which is a private balcony in a hotel room or residence and usually found in most structures in Hawaii.
       5. Sock It To Me—celebrating the birth on this day in 1945 of Goldie Hawn introduced to the public in the comedy series Laugh In who went on to the Silver Screen as a director and actress to garner a Best Actress Oscar and be nominated for another; long time partner with Kurt Russell and mother of one child with him with a smile and laugh that could turn the night into the dawn.
On this day in:
       a. 1967 in one of the more blatant snow jobs during the Vietnam War General Westmoreland told the American public that we were winning the war only to see the falsity of that statement explode in his face when during Tet in 1968 the Viet Cong and the NVA launched a country wide attack on South Vietnam’s towns and cities, including Saigon and Hue.
        b. 1969 the first ARPANET link was established between computers in UCLS and the Stanford Research Institute.
          c. 1985 in a if you can’t trust your allies who can you trust, Navy Intelligence officer Jason Pollard was caught spying for Israel and sentenced to life in prison to be release on parole in 2015.
 d. 1985 in a moment that Hillary remembered well Oliver North and his secretary started shredding documents relating to the Iran-Contra Scandal that came very close to having Reagan impeached (probably where she got the idea to bleach bot her private servers).
 e. 2015 in an it almost seems like yesterday moment, Belgium put a very large part of Brussels under lock down, fearing a terrorist attack.
Reflections on success by the birthday girl turning 72 today: “Whether you're successful or not, you'll never actually feel the joys of accomplishment unless you love yourself. Success can be very difficult to deal with. You have to stay in the center. If you let your success define you, then you're really just setting yourself up for failure.” Goldie Hawn Truer words have rarely been spoken since I at the core if one does not love oneself why should anyone else?
