Ridley’s
Believe It Or Not For November 11, 2017 Today we honor our
vets for their service and sacrifice not with just applause and ovations but
hopefully also with a job if an employer, contributions to such groups as
Wounded Warriors and other veterans’ support groups, and outrage over the callousness
of the VA Hospitals to their medical and psychological needs http://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2017/11/veterans-day-and-one-percent.html;
Trump conversed with Putin in Vietnam and indicated again that Putin denied any
attempt by Russia to interfere with our presidential election as the two issued
a joint statement that they would continue the fight against ISIS until it was
defeated in Syria; on the sexual harassment front Judge Moore vehemently denied
the allegations of sexual abuse against a 53 year old woman who was 14 at the
time but has remained silent for almost 40 years and we find that another woman
who dated him and kissed him when she was 17 and he 34 worked as a translator
for HJC’s campaign and several other Blue candidates; while President Trump
remained in Asia, Melania stopped at Elmadorf Air Force Base in Anchorage and
visited a children’s center to see what the children were making and joined
them in playing with Playdough (what a class act); once again when it comes to
offense the Beatles were proved right that “All You Need Is Love, Love is all
you need” as Bryce Love against the Huskies at Stanford ran for 166 yards and
three tds against a defense that had only allowed three tds the whole season
prior to the game as Stanford knocked off the Huskies 30-22; almost a stuck record or a gruesome
remake of Groundhog Day, Chicago style, the carnage in Chicago
continued unabated with total shootings by mostly minorities against mostly
minorities in 2017 through November 10 increasing to 3224 of whom 560 have died while nothing is being
done to hinder or prevent the killings of minorities by minorities.
As always, I hope you enjoy

factoids of interest for this day in history, hoping that you are generous with

1. Veterans’ Day—commemorated
first on this day in 1919 as Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I and
made a federal holiday in 1938.
Wine
Tourism Day—commemorating since 2014 the contribution of wineries to our
economies and the tourism industry, especially in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys
which sadly were exposed to major wildfires recently.
3. 2004
Number One Song—the number one song in 2004 on a run of 6 weeks in that position
was “My Boo” by Usher and Alicia Keys. Here is a recording of
the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPgf2meEX1w
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “lagniappe” which is a fancy word for tip or gratuity.
5. Ideologue with all the wrong causes—celebrating
or bemoaning depending on your point of view, the birth on this day of Barbara
Boxer a leftist Blue Senator who in retiring has been replaced by a clone who
is further to the left than she is—Kamala Harris.
On this day
in:
a. 1919 members of the International Industrial Workers attacked and Armistice Day
Parade in Centralia, Washington resulting in the deaths of five people.
b. 1923 President Harding dedicated the Tomb of the Unknowns at
Arlington National Cemetery.
c. 1926 it became easier to navigate one’s motor vehicle in the
U.S. when it designated its Highway Numbered System.
d. 1967 in a propaganda stunt so typical of the left Tom Hayden,
who was to marry Hanoi Jane Fonda, in Phnom Penh received three American
prisoners of war released to him by the Viet Cong to return to the United
States.
e. 1993 a statute honoring the contributions of women who served
in the Vietnam War Theater was unveiled at the Vietnam War Memorial.
Reflections on the veterans and Veterans’ Day: “But this Veterans
Day, I believe we should do more than sing the praises of the bravery and
patriotism that our veterans have embodied in the past. We should take this
opportunity to re-evaluate how we are treating our veterans in the present.” Nick Lampson, former
Blue Congressman from the State of Texas Please
