Ridley’s Believe It Or
Not For August 6, 2017 The
535 Gang have fled the Swamp derelict in their duties with not one Senator free
from our scorn and anger; both Reds and Blues are not doing their job to
legislate which they cannot do given the partisanship win at any cost
mentality; in 2018 regardless of party any incumbent Senator Blue or Red should
be voted out of office and Schumer, McConnell, Pelosi and Ryan should be
removed from their leadership positions; the
rag that no one outside the Beltway reads has concocted another fake news from
unnamed sources that Pence and other top Republicans are conducting a shadow
campaign to replace Trump in 2020, a report which Pence promptly and vehemently
denied; as Maduro accelerates his dictatorial power grab, Venezuela slides
further into starvation and violence against the illegitimate government of
Maduro (time to start arming the opposition and banning the import of the
country’s oil?); Trump briefly crashed a wedding reception at his New Jersey
Golf Club wearing golf attire and a Make America Great Again golf hat; not only
will Blues and Reds not cross the aisle but it seems that those who have walked
down the aisle are finding their marriages torn asunder by diffences due to
feelings on Trump as the power Florida couple Lynn Aronberg and state attorney
Dave Aronberg are in divorce court;
through August 5, 2017, 2249 people have been shot in Chicago 388
of whom have died.
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Nelly,
factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote by Daisuku Akeda
on nuclear weapons and life, knowing that the 535 Gang’s leaving the Swamp to
enjoy an August recess is irrisible, secure
in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events
like weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide
you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the
event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Day—commemorating
since 1947 the dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima on this day in
August, 1945 by the Enola Gay (ironic
that several days earlier news that
Japan is contemplating going nuclear itself in response to North Korea’s
relentless and irresponsible nuclear weapons program).
2. International
Forgiveness Day—celebrated on the first Sunday in August and guaranteed, if
observed on that day and every day of the year, to lower resentment, anger and
blood pressure—truly one of the great traits that humans are capable of.
3. 2002 Number One Song—the number one song in 2002
on a run of 7 weeks in that position was “Not In Here” by Nelly. Here
is a performance by Nelly of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeZZr_p6vB8
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “irrisible” which means worthy of
derision which describes what voters should feel about the 535 Gang after they
have left the Swamp with zero legislative accomplishments due to fanatical obstruction
and gridlock.
5. A
Woman to Love—celebrating the birth on this day in 1911 of Lucille Ball,
iconic motion picture and TV star and comedian who overcame a really difficult
poverty childhood due to the death of her father when she was only three to
make millions in her craft.
On this day
in:
a. 1926 Warner Brothers
Vitaphone sound system for motion pictures and shorts premiered with the movie Don Juan starring John Barrymore.
b. 1942 after having
fled her country following the invasion of Holland by the Germans in 1940,
Queen Wilhelmina became the first reigning queen to address Congress.
c. 1960 Castro nationalized all American and foreign owned
property in Cuba which resulted in the U.S. embargoing all trade with the
communist controlled nation.
d. 1990 in response to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, the UN Security Council imposed a total embargo of all trade with Iraq which like the sanctions just imposed on North Korea did not change Hussein’s behavior resulting in the need to use military force several months later in the first Gulf War.
d. 1990 in response to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, the UN Security Council imposed a total embargo of all trade with Iraq which like the sanctions just imposed on North Korea did not change Hussein’s behavior resulting in the need to use military force several months later in the first Gulf War.
e. 1991 in a paradigm shift on how humans interact and conduct
business Tim Berniers-Lee published files on the creation of the internet World
Wide Web—hard to imagine a world without the internet today.
Reflections on wise words
that North Korea and Iran continue to ignore that ultimately if they continue
on their present path will lead to their total destruction: “Japan learned from the bombings of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki that the tragedy wrought by nuclear weapons must never be repeated and
that humanity and nuclear weapons cannot coexist.” Daisaku Ikeda, noted
Buddhist philosopher and anti-nuclear activist Ironic only days before the
anniversary of the dropping of “Little Boy” by the Enola Gay news reports that Japan is considering going nuclear
itself to deter North Korea.
