Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For August 2, 2017 Venezuela whose economy has been destroyed by socialism
will soon be ruled by a dictator ala Castro after a sham election (Maduro looks
obese just like King Jung Un while the county looks like its whole population
is on a forced NutriSystem program); will Trump expand sanctions now on Maduro
to include the banning of importing of Venezuelan crude which would totally
sink that pathetic example of socialism?); China’s worse nightmare as a result
of its refusal to force the end of North Korea’s nuclear program may well be a
nuclear armed Japan and a nuclear armed Taiwan (what does it take for the
Chinese to realize that a united Korea under the prosperity of the South with
the U.S. no longer on the DMZ is in their best interests?); finally self
preservation among a growing number of Blues as Blues after fighting tooth and
nail are scrambling to come up with plans to fix Obamacare (great first step
would be to eliminate the exemption granted to the 535 Gang and their staff); another
nail in the Russian collusion delusion as Trump signs Russian sanctions bill;
Ben Rhodes the ideologue slime ball who championed the Iran nuclear deal is now
under investigation by Congress over his role in unmasking American citizens in
any attempt to intimidate them for opposing Obama’s policies; finally a slim
ray of hope that accountability will return to the VA as the director of the VA
Medical Center in the Swamp was fired; through July 31,
2017 2212 people have been shot in Chicago 384 of whom have died (sadly the ATF
agents Trump has sent has not put a damper on the carnage).
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Brandy
and Monica, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote by James
Baldwin on habit, more irascent each day as you watch the circus in the Swamp, secure in the knowledge
that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the
recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1.
Dinosaurs’
Day—celebrating on a day when holidays and observances are far and
few between Dinosaurs’ Day by a trip to the museum or watch a Jurassic Park CD.
2. Coloring
Book Day—if you have young children or young grandchildren today would be
a good day to get out the crayons and coloring books and draw with them.
3. 1998 Number One Song—the number one song in
1998 on a long run of 13 weeks in that position was “The Boy Is Mine” by Brandy
and Monica. Here is a performance by the duo of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Va1Y6uAgNJY
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “irascent” which means likely to become
angry which voters will be over the failure of Congress to repeal and replace
Obamacare once voters start receiving their premium notices.
5. Go Tell It On The Mountain—celebrating
the birth on this day in 1924 of James Baldwin, noted African American author, essayist
and poet who died far to early at the age of 63 from stomach cancer.
On this day
in:
a. 1870 the Tower Subway
opened in London as the world’s first underground tube subway system.
b. 1873 cable cars began
operating in San Francisco.
c. 1937 in a bad day for
stoners, the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 was signed, the effect of which was to
make marijuana and its byproducts illegal.
d. 1939 Albert Einstein
and Leo Szilard wrote a letter to President Roosevelt urging the development of
a nuclear weapon.
e. 1990 Iraq invaded
Kuwait leading to the mother of all shortest wars the following year.
Reflections
on the dangers of habit: “When one begins to live by
habit and by quotation, one has begun to stop living.” James Baldwin Nothing like a little
spontaneity to spice up one’s life. Please
