Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For August 15, 2017 The South is aping the Soviet Union in terms of airbrushing
its history by removing any traces of those who fought in the Civil War as a
growing tide of protestors are demanding removal of all statutes and flags
relating to the Confederacy (do not be surprised if there is a move to airbrush
out of history the founding fathers like Washington and Jefferson who were
slave owners); it looks like the obese gout ridden lunatic in North Korea who
doctors believe is showing in his behavior signs of steroid abuse is getting a
touch of reality and backing down on threats to attack Guam (where is China and
when will it in actuality join the community of nations and strangle N. Korea
economically?); news that Obama knew of Russian attempts to interfere with the
election as early as 2014 and remained silent; on the education sex front
another female teacher 40 year old Shawnetta Reese in a Georgia middle school
has been arrested for having sex with one of her eighth grade students; in a
reaffirmation that any teacher male or female should never have sex with his or
her student, an Oklahoma teacher Jennifer Caswell has been sentenced to ten
years in prison for having sex with one of her minor students and hit with a $1
million fine while her school district had to cough up $125,000; on the sports
and opioid crisis front, toxicology results following Tiger Woods’ arrest in
May for DUI showed marijuana and four prescription drugs in his system—Vicodin,
Dilaudid, Xanax and Ambien; in a I can’t believe I ate the whole thing, Miki
Sudo in six minutes at the Indiana State Fair consumed 16 pints of ice cream
and received $2,000 for such gluttony; through August 14,
2017 in Chicago the number of people being shot climbed to 2339, 407 of whom
have died.
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Black
Eyed Peas, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote by Melinda
Gates on her birthday on helping the less fortunate, disgusted with all the jabberwock
being spewed in Congress and the MSM, secure
in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events
like weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide
you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the
event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Independence Day (Korea)—on a day in which
notable holidays in the U.S. are few and far between assuming you are not
rattled by Kim, celebrate in South Korea the independence of Korea from Japan
on this day in 1945.
2. Independence
Day (India)—on a day in which notable holidays in the U.S. are few and far
between assuming you can cope with the humidity, filth and crowds, celebrate in
India the independence of India from Great Britain.
3. 2009 Number One Song—the number one song in 2009
on a long run of 14 weeks in that position was “I Gotta A Feeling” by Black
Eyed Peas. Here is the group’s performance of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSD4vsh1zDA
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “jabberwock”
which means nonsense or gibberish which seems to be the lingua franca in the
Swamp.
5. One
Sure Way To Break The Glass Ceiling—celebrating the birth on
this day in 1964 of Melinda French better known to the world as Melinda Gates,
wife of Bill Gates and co-chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a
leader in philanthropy.
On this day in:
a. 1483 Pope Sixtus !V consecrated
the Sistine Chapel.
b. 1534 Ignatius of
Loyola and six other priests took initial vows which led to the formation in
1540 of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits).
c. 1914 after over 10
years of construction and the deaths of 5,600 workers from disease and
accidents the Panama Canal welcomed the first ship to transit the Panama Canal,
the S.S. Ancon..
d. 1969 the Woodstock
Music and Art Festival opened in Woodstock, New York.
e. 1973 the clandestine bombing of Cambodia targeting suspected NVA
and Viet Cong troop concentrations that had commenced in 1969 ended.
Reflections
from the birthday woman on the rational for helping others: “If you are
successful, it is because somewhere, sometime, someone gave you a life or an
idea that started you in the right direction. Remember also that you are
indebted to life until you help some less fortunate person, just as you were
helped.” Melinda Gates Right on point on
this observation! Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you
