Sad
news that Mimi’s Café in Costa Mesa on last Sunday has closed its doors
A
touch of French cuisine with atmosphere and service to vraiment adore
This
poet and two others chose on Sunday evening early to at Mimi’s dine
Not
a clue that the doors would then be closed forever after closing time
In
a world where the mantra is to increase the minimum wage
Every
cost, every penny to a restaurant needs to be subject to a cost cutting rampage
Mimi’s
did not close due to a lack of customers willing there to eat
Or
competition from a now full Triangle Square just up the street
No,
it would appear Vestar the property manager wanted more rent than Mimi’s wanted
to pay
Mimi’s
like Trump in a deal knew when to from the table walk away
For
us a Last Supper not recorded for posterity on canvass or video on Facebook
Only
memories of a great meal complete with French onion soup and ideas for an
upcoming book
A
chance to hand to this poet’s fellow diners his annual Christmas poem
With
memories of a great meal followed by a pleasant aid to the digestion walk home
Now
hoping that the staff will have jobs waiting at Mimi’s two other sites
Ere it will be for them to
find only an unemployment comp check under the Christmas tree lights
