Thomas Ill Ginsburg On The Bench

When Ike was president the nation waited to sigh a sigh of relief
A heart attack that might turn fatal and turn a nation into major grief
Nixon was but a heartbeat away from walking across the White House Lawn
Concerned, the nation to Ike’s recovery bed was drawn
This old soldier who during the war smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day
By the grace of God an early death from smoking managed to delay
In our polarized nation that faces a widening left right divide
Once again we are a heartbeat away from a seat of power shifting sides
Not the presidency which has a conservative vice president in Mike Pence
Who would be more than able to pick up the gauntlet and remain on offence
But what used to be an impartial court above the partisanship political flaw
Where nominees are grilled to no end in a partisan buzz saw
SCOTUS is now a 5-4 right to left usual split
With conservatives looking forward to seeing Ruth Ginsburg quit
But this judge who from mortal diseases recovers and seems immune
Was on the bench on opening session while Thomas was not in the room
An unspecified illness had kept him away
Hopefully, not serious and fears of a shift to allay
A 4-4 deadlock with Thomas gone and SCOTUS rulings are a roll of Circuit Court dice
Tie SCOTUS votes mean lower court ruling stands which left or right may not view as very nice
A better solution that may never be able to be put in place
That SCOTUS decides based on the law not personal views to replace
