Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For June
24, 2018 Trump has thrown the gauntlet down on illegal immigration by
demanding that anyone coming here illegally is to be deported immediately—no court
trials or catch and release (unless he can do that by executive order not a
chance that Blues will back him and unless the Reds can win on the message illegal
immigration is costing us upwards of $130 billion a year we are doomed to be
plagued by an open, porous border through which pours drugs and people); NYPD
is seeking public help to identify 6 most likely illegal alien gang bangers
that hacked to death a 15 year old with machetes (Mayor DiBlasio has been too
busy appearing at events like Gay Pride to offer condolences to the family);
the U.S. and South Korea have announced an indefinite suspension of joint
military exercises; interesting study out that shows correlation between opioid
use and Trump support (a sign of despair caused by abandonment of the liberal
elite?); on the climate change front new study that meRthane emissions at
natural gas production sites are 60 percent higher than previously reported as
natural gas is used more and more to produce electricity; Time Magazine got caught with its journalistic pants down as its
cover with Trump staring down at a small child falsely portrayed the child as
being separated from its mother; in Chicago through June 23, 2018, 1308 people
mostly of color have been shot by mostly people of color, of whom 208 have died
(when will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true
racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of
people of color by people of color?).
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Brandy
and Monica, factoids of interest for this day in history, the hopeful end
to maximalism in the Swamp on both sides of the aisle; a relevant quote from Minka
Kelly on treating human beings, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any
memorable events like college graduations, birthdays, weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the
recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. World UFO Day—commemorating the sighting by Kenneth Arnold on this day in
1947 while flying near Mt. Rainier of nine flying objects that were not of this
world.
2. Museum Comes to Life Day—celebrating a perfect reason to visit a museum near you.
3. 1998 Number One Song— the number one song in 1998 on a run of 13 weeks in that
position was “The Boy Is Mine” by Brandy and Monica. Here is a
recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Va1Y6uAgNJY
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “maximalism” which means an uncompromising
adherence to extreme demands which sadly describes our political system in the
Swamp.
5. Have No Fear If You Can Cheer—celebrating the
birthday on this day in 1980 of noted actress Minka Kelly, best known for her
role on the series Cheerleaders.
On this
day in:
a.a. 1916 Mary
Pickford became the first female actress to be signed to a $1,000,000 contract.
b. 1948 the Soviet Union shut down the overland routes between
Berlin and West Germany, an act that instituted the Berlin Airlift which broke
the back of the blockade.
c. 1950 in South Africa the Group Areas Act formally segregating
the races was passed.
d. 1957 SCOTUS in the case of Roth v. United States ruled
that pornographic material was not protected by the First Amendment.
e. 1995 South Africa defeated New Zealand in the World Rugby Cup
with South Africa President Nelson Mandela presenting the winning trophy.
Reflections on how to treat people from the
birthday girl, a reflection that Hollywood celebrities should pay attention to:
“It blows my mind that anyone could be unkind to anyone. The guy clearing our
plates is a person. I don't care if you're sweeping the floor. I don't care if
you're cleaning my toilet.” Minka Kelly.
