February 18, 2018 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Battery Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For February 18, 2018 James and Kimberly Snead who took in Nicolas Cruz after his mother died must be wondering how they missed any signs that he was about to commit his horrific crime; FBI admitted that they blew it in not passing the tip phoned in that Cruz wanted to be a mass school shooter; Pelosi and her lackeys calling for more gun control and Reds like Limbaugh and Hannity calling for armed guards and armed teachers in schools to protect against mass shootings (making schools gun free zones may be a magnet for copy cat killers who know they will have at least 5 minutes of unhindered shooting time before police respond if everyone in a school is unarmed); on the unfriendly skies front, a flight from Dubai to Amsterdam was diverted to Vienna when passengers got into a fist fight over a passenger refusing to stop passing gas and an Alaska Airline’s flight from Anchorage to Seattle had to return to Anchorage when a passenger locked himself in a restroom and took off his clothes and refused to come out; in a too good to last moment in Chicago through February 17, 2018 294 people have been shot of whom 56 have died ending the string of two days of no one dying after being shot.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Spice Girls,  factoids of interest for this day in history, the being lissome and a relevant quote by Vanna White on her philosophy of life,  secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. National Battery Day—celebrating an electrifying observance of the importance of batteries in our daily life e.g. no batteries no cell phones and no hand held gaming devices.
2. National Drink Wine Day—celebrating a drink that has been around since 6000 B.C. and when consumed in moderation has many health benefits like lowering blood pressure.
3. 1997 Number One Song— the number one song in 1997 on a run of 4 weeks in that position was “Wannabe” by Spice Girls. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJLIiF15wjQ
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “lissome” which means lithe, nimble or flexible which is a word not suited to describe politicians in this gridlocked partisan Swamp.
5. Show Me A Letter--celebrating the birth on this day in 1957 of Vanna White, stunning co-host of Wheel of Fortune and former model.
          On this day in:
a. 1947 the French gained control of Hanoi, forcing the Viet Minh to flee into the mountains to continue guerilla warfare against them.
b. 1970 the Chicago 7 were found not guilty of inciting a riot at the Democrat’s National Convention in Chicago.
c. 1972 the California Supreme Court in the case of People v. Anderson  ruled that the state’s death penalty statute was unconstitutional and commuted all death row inmates sentences to life imprisonment, including Charles Manson who recently died of natural causes in prison and Sirhan Sirhan who had assassinated Robert Kennedy.
d. 2001 FBI Agent Richard Hanssen was arrested for spying for the Russians, pled guilty to avoid the death penalty and is now serving 13 consecutive life sentences in a federal Super Max prison where he is in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day.
e. 2010 WikiLeaks released the first of hundreds of thousands of classified documents given to them by a soldier now known as Chelsea Manning who sadly had his/her sentence commuted by Obama as he was leaving office.
Reflections on a great philosophy for living from the birthday celebrant: “My philosophy in life is: 'Go for it!' If I wanted an ice cream and didn't have any money, I always figured out a way to get it.”Vanna White Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
