On My Granddaughter Elley
will enjoy her 2nd Valentine’s Day
So I examined the Valentine’s Cards on sale to display
The cards all had well done
pleasing works of art
But lyrics in rhyme were so
bad that it was impossible to one’s credit cards from my wallets depart
Since the number of Valentine
‘s Day cards will be far and few between, I decided to enter the lyrics
drafting scene
In Kindergarten Elley will,
with magazine photos, colored paper, scissors and glue, create for her mother
his first Valentine’s Day to enter into the scrapbook to reign supreme
As she advances in elementary
school, her cards will contained some of her drawing and after hours spent on
her father’s lap being read to, some poetic lines
While discovering friendships
so precious to behold and increasing in value as they were further refined
By high school she will be a
friendship magnet and the Valentine’s Day Cards will come in waves
She and her friends will relish
her Good Sam honor code at school and the services to the community she gave
She learned and passed on
that it is better to give than always wanting to receive
That true friends never demeaned or ridiculed what another had achieved
Or falsely embellished one’s achievements
to leave a true friend shaking her head in disgust
True friends were those that
on could trust
To be able to lean on each
other when all were low urging the sadness or grief would pass by
To share together the simple
pleasures of seeing the Sun set only down in the evening sky|
False friends are those whose
who persevere passing off as gold any iron pyrite
Worthless as gold with a value
less that an Elephant Gift and the shame of holding it keeping it out of site
After hearing the Story Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose, Elley and
her true friends will have had the value of true friends imbedded in stone
Thidwick was a ”Good Sam” always
willing to lend a hoof or antler to assist
when at home or lower his antler when threats
to the herd became known
By now the moose munching
grass was ready to be by hungry moose eaten
So Thidwick was on a path to the lake well beaten
When 2 squirrels jumped in his
path and nicely pleaded to use his antlers as their abode
Thidwick knew the 2 squirrels
would be eating nuts not mouse grass and they would be a very light load
Like a Good Sam he welcomed
them aboard
Not knowing that ahead of him
on his path were a homeless horde
Who demanded, begged, cried
and plead be allowed antler treatment
Promising to behave and have
any garbage in their new lodgings to be covered over to leave on scent
But the weight of his new
found zoo meant he could barely walk
And very soon Thidwick’ s
hoof prints would be so easy to stalk
His moose friends seeing his
struggle all warned he was making a big mistake
If he didn’t shed his false
friends, really pests, he and them would be featured as the main entry on the
hunters’ dinner plates
And like a boom of lighting
to survive and give his pests a survival chance
While the hunter and his
dining guests would watched their waist circumferences advance
Thidwick’ s antlers were shed
but his pests would not into the forest flee
But Thidwick across the lake
did and became working on adding to his obesity
While guests of the hunting
lodge his antlers and lifelike pests after a taxidermist’s skill can see
Happy Valentine’s Day dear granddaughter
and many more
If by chance you a camping a
see a moose who smiles and winks at you maybe he is a descendant of Thidwick
whose antlers have no lodgers anymore
